Honeymoon

I was wondering what folks spent or are planning to spend for their honeymoon?  Just for airfare and hotel.  Where'd you go and how many days was it?  Really no reason in asking, other than we're in the middle of booking our stuff and I'm curious to see where we are in the average scheme of things with this.

Re: Honeymoon

  • Our flight + hotel was under $2,000 for six nights in Costa Rica.
  • 3500 on the accomodations for 8 nights in cancun.
airfare was a gift.. so can't help yah there.

the resort we stayed at was ridiculous. sooooooooooooooooo beautiful and clean and the food was amazing and i could go back every month. :-)
  • Our flight was 3000. Our hotel was a package deal so we spent about 7 grand  more in Italy for a week. So around 10,000 give or take some.

$3,000-$4,000. Hoping for a week in Paris, maybe 6 days. Pretty sure we can get an airfare and hotel package at under 2k per person, but we'll see if that changes by the time we book.

(Also, this may be wishful thinking, because our London/Edinburgh trip was more. I didn't really shop for budget hotels, though.)

Edit: We're also looking into renting a flat or an apartment swap, which would be cheaper than a hotel.

  • Sorry, my H just said the flight was in the package deal too, so 10,000 for everything.

  • I have no idea, H took care of it all.  We drove and it was about $50 to fill each tank and I'm guessing our hotels were in the $100-$150 a night range, but it was really off season*.  We were gone for 5 nights.

*All prices are in Australian and I'm gussing we drove about 800 miles round trip.

  • It ran us about $5500CDN for two weeks in Jamaica at Couples Sans Souci in a beachfront suite. That place was out of this world, and we're already going back in October.
  • We were going to go to Italy in July (9 months after our wedding, but in March we got a ridiculous last minute deal on Iberia and were able to plan our honeymoon in 5 days.  We got round trip tix from Vegas to Barcelona for $306!!!!  ((I never get tiired of talking about that)

For 2 weeks, hotel, transportation all around Spain, food, wine, complete total cost we spent $5000.
    Yeah...we are pretty awesome.

  • Well we were on the higher end of the scale.

But in our defense, we are older with no kids.  We both have decent salaries, own a condo, no student loan debt (or any other debt except for mortgage).  So we could afford to splurge.

It does not matter what the rest of us spent.  Just spend what you can actually afford and what you are comfortable to spend.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

On the higher side and for basically the same reasons that Lynda said.

  • I suppose I should answer my own question - $3,500 for 11 nights in Costa Rica, airfare and shuttles between hotels/airport.

  • Wow that is a good deal.

  • $1500 for hotel and airfare. One night in a hotel in San Juan, followed by a 4-night house rental on Isla de Vieques.
  • Ours is almost $12,000 for flights and 2-weeks of hotels in Greece.  Not that I'd need to defend it, but if you are going to judge, we are not paying for it...FI's boss is.

  • We spent a week in Northern California - 3 nights in San Fran, and 4 nights in Napa.  The flights were around $700, and we only spent around $400 on hotels (but that is because our coordinator at the Marriott where we got married was willing to let us say she was my mom!).  A rental car was $150 or so, and we spent, I don't know, $600-$700 on food/drinks/entertainment?  All in all, we had an awesome honeymoon for right around $2000.
  • We are spending $5000 for 8 nights in Costa Rica.  About $900 for flights ($450 each), about $2500 for hotels (I am obsessed with where we are staying, pricey per night but worth it), $150 for a rental car, and about $1600 to spend while there on activities such as white water rafting, zip lining, and of course eating out!
  • about $1100 for 8 days in Maui....granted we used miles for our flights so thats like 90% hotel

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010
