Eeek.

So, I bought my WP gifts a week ago. My MOH is really into the anime and manga scene, and I found a manga cookbook on ThinkGeek.com that I thought was really cute. It was 20 bucks, which is our budget for WP gifts. It's also non-returnable. My problem lies in the fact that yesterday, I found out my MOH is in a program for eating disorder recovery. Is this gift now completely inappropriate? We're on a strict budget, but I'll find a way to make it work if you ladies think that I should get something new. Thanks.

Re: Eeek.

  • Mmm... I think it's still appreciate maybe? I don't know. Tricky.

It's probably your own call at this point, honestly. If you feel as though it might be awkward, then don't give it to her. Maybe hold onto it for her birthday or Christmas?
  • You could always save the cookbook for a future bday or something--hopefully she will recover soon.  I would definitely not give it to her now, though.
  • I would definitely not be giving a someone recovering from an eating disorder a cookbook. Try and sell it and buy a different gift.

  • Ditto PP.  Save it for another occasion if you want to give it to her later, but give her something different as a WP gift.

P.S. That cookbook is super adorable and would have been totally perfect otherwise.

The Manga Cookbook: Japanese Bento Boxes, Main Dishes and More

I was really looking forward to giving it to her, but it`s soooooo not the right time for it.

Ditto this.  It's kind of like an addiction (in fact, it really IS an addiction).  It doesn't just go away.

Try to get some money back if you can, and find something else.  And hugs to your friend.

I found that one after I asked. Fi is into anime and manga also and has been not so subtlety hinting that he'd like me to learn how to make bento boxes (or he can learn himself). If you decide to resell it send me a PM. If you decide to keep it and give it to her for some other occasion that's cool too.

<div>Yeah, I was struggling with the wording of that post.  I would personally hang onto the book in the hopes that she gets to a point where she is doing better.  I get that that might not happen, or at least not anytime soon, but that's what I would do.  It's not big to store, but if the OP needs to sell it to buy something else, then that's fine, too.  </div>
