question about NY from a Philly bride

Hi!  I am actually from Philadelphia, but have a NY related question.  My fiance and I are giving a $100 gift certificate to my parents for a fancy Philly restaurant called Le Bec Fin, and we now need to find a similar enough restaurant in NYC (maybe in Manhattan?) for his parents, who often visit NY.  We would just ask them, as I'm sure they know of some fancy places, but want it to be a surprise!  Any ideas?  

To be similar enough to Le Bec Fin, it should be a 5-star restaurant.  French, Italian, or Steakhouse would probably be safe choices, and I know they are not much into Asian or Indian cuisine.

You're not going to find a 5 star restaurant for $100 in NYC but I would suggest Orsay on Lexington Avenue & 75th Street if they love French food.  IMO, it's one of the best in the city.

Agreed with pp, a 5 star for $100 in Manhattan would be almost impossible, but if you just want the money towards their meal, then the possibilities are endless.  Babbo is the Mario Batali restaurant and it is AMAZING.  Il Tulli is also very good and less expensive.

For French La Sirene is a small place and not very expensive that is BYOB and it is excellent!

Two great Italian places in Queens, that would be more affordable, are Parkside in Corona or Vetro in Howard Beach.

I went to Mercer Kitchen in SOHO a few weeks ago and it was AMAZING.  i think its 4 stars...does it HAVE to be 5?

I would try Buddakhan - Its a Steven Starr restaurant in NYC - its actually where Big and Carrie have their rehearsal dinner in the Sex and The City Movie (part 1) and the easy thing is that you can buy the gift card on line and they mail it to you and it looks very nice - I just ordered a $80 gift card for my NYC friend from Buddakan for her birthday.
