Invited couple adding a plus 1

My FH and I decided to invite his boss and wife to the wedding. We just got their rsvp back with three attending! They took it upon themselves to add their daughter, who is 21. So not only is that another plate but another person for the open bar. Do I just ignore it, or ask FH to let them know that the invite was just for them?

I also know them personally and am close friends with other members of their family, which makes this more complicated.

  • Yeah.... strictly speaking you are in the right to keep her out.

Career-wise, let her in.  The boss probably knew you'd be likely not to naysay the addition, which makes this doubly offensive as a social move.  I hate workplace politics.

[QUOTE]You are well within your rights to call and let them know that the invitation was just for the two of them. However, with it being your FI's boss, I personally would let it slide. I wouldn't think it was worth the potential awkwardness at work later.

This. Especially if you can stay within budget (ONE add-on shouldn't be detrimental to your finances)

  • I am very close to the rest of the bosses family! I want to just let it slide, but I am afraid if other guests try to slip in a plus one I will be in big trouble.
  • Maybe have your FI tell the boss that you and he are really glad that he and his wife are able to come, but unfortunately it isn't possible for you to accommodate his daughter?

Hopefully that won't result in the boss playing career games with your FI; if it does, he'd better start looking for another job!
