Save the Date digitally?

I am aware that it is proper etiquette to send these out when your guests will be traveling long distances (like from another country), or if the wedding is being held in a touristy area ( part of the wedding capital of Canada, Niagara Falls). Sooooo in order to save some money, not to mention trees, I was thinking of sending out electronic Save-the-Date cards to those tech savvy guests and just a few paper ones to the not so savvy.
So lets have it all,  I can do in photo-shop personal Save-The-Dates and email them out as jpgs to tech savvy guests and print them out and mail to others....

Is that a real faux pas or is digital for Save-The-Dates acceptable if the invitations are formal and paper??

  • save the dates are not required by etiquette in any situation.  they were invented as a way for brides and grooms to insure maximum attendance at their weddings, and in some ways, as an AW vehicle.

we had a handful of folks who had to travel.  we opted to simply send them an email saying, here's the date, and here's a list of hotels.  we didnt feel the need to make it an actual card, or AW it up with a picture of the two fo us, etc.  it accomplished the same thing, and was totally free and took all of 15 minutes.
  • Sometimes it seems like people forget that you don't have to do a "Save the Date"- you can personally tell your friends, hey, we love you, we're getting married on X/XX, hope you can be there.  The personal approach can be very nice.

  • I'm fine with email STDs

  • FI and I did phone calls to all OOT's but since it's not required either way I see no problem with doing both.

  • We e-mailed all our friends to get their postal addresses, and just told them then what the date would be.  We never bothered with STDs.

Since STDs are not required by etiquette at all, you can do them however you want.
  • I am planning on doing a STD with a pic of us and our date. but when I send actual invtites out. Id like people to call me or email me with responses so its more personal chat than just popping a card in the mail saying yes or no
