Silly Music Question, but there's a poll!

Where we are getting married, the venue recommends a solo violinist.  I think this sounds lovely for pre-ceremony, ceremony and cocktail hour.  We're getting married over the ocean and the coordinator at the venue swears that less is more.  I completely trust her.

I've basically fallen in love with a piece of music that I want to use for my walk down the aisle.  Unfortunately, the song I want to walk into can only be played by a trio (two violins, viola or similar combination) or a quartet. 

Is it ridiculous to get a trio/quartet just because of one piece of music?  I can't comment on cost differentials because I don't know them yet.

If you can afford it, go for it.  A trio will have more "depth" to it, sound wise.  I don't think that would be too much for an ocean side venue.  An orchestra would be, though

I would look into cost first. I'd imagine this might be the deal breaker, as you'll then have the info you need to weigh the pros and cons.

Agree with Expat - if we could have afforded a violinist or trio/quartet we would have had them

I agree with Expat--a small ensemble should not be overwhelming in any way. But definitely check how this will affect your costs. If you're looking to keep costs down, consider hiring music students from your local universities--they often sound just as good as pros and are eager to please.

I think if you can fit it in your budget you should definitely go for the string quartet!
