RSVP by email?

Is it appropriate to have an RSVP email address on the invitation?  I'm really trying to save $$ any way I can, but I don't want to be tacky.  I thought about setting up an email account just for this purpose.  Suggestions?

Re: RSVP by email?

  • We have an RSVP section on our wedding website where guests can RSVP if they want, and we created a special account for it. If you know your guests will actually use it and you're wedding is a little less formal then I don't see a problem with it.

We're also including response cards because I know most of our guest list probably won't use the online RSVP. If expense is an issue you could make your own RSVP postcards and just buy stamps or try making something through Vistaprint, which is pretty inexpensive.
  • I don't think email should be your only option. I know a lot of elderly people don't even have a computer or know how to operate one for that matter.
  • I like traditional RSVPs better, but for a more casual wedding I think e-mail is OK. Dudley has a good point, though. Why don't you add an address to RSVP to as well so that guests w/out web access (or more traditional old people) can write you a note?
  • You can also use a RSVP post card rather than an RSVP card w/envelope. They are cheaper and postage is less for a post card.
  • We made our own RSVP postcards for our invitations and they were super easy. You can fit 4 on a standard 8.5x11" piece of paper.
  • Don't use it as your only option. Some of your guests won't be tech savvy enough to use it. We had the email option on our RSVPs and I figured a lot of our younger friends would go that route. Nope. Out of 57 invites sent, we got ONE email RSVP. If you're really concerned about cost, you can make your own postcard size RSVPs and buy envelopes at Staples for like $10.

  • I would at least include a phone number as well as the email. But I like traditional RSVPs, myself.
