Whit - House update/facebook

I got the email that you saw my facebook but can't get on facebook while at work. Sorry to leave you hanging on the "how my husband scared me" post.

So the latest update. We got into the house yesterday to take another look around. The appraiser was in and we should have his report early this week and then decide a closing date.

The bad news...the seller took the entire kitchen with him and sold it for cash. I'm talking everything, cabinets, countertops, appliances....It's basically an empty room with a water hook-up and gas hook-up. Ah well, all part of the fun...right?

Re: Whit - House update/facebook

  • Wow, he took the whole kitchen?  I hope you're going to reduce your offer then because it will cost you a lot, over $10k probably at least, to redo all of that.

  • the entire kitchen?  I guess you have to be pretty deperate to sell your kitchen for money.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • The thing is, we've already waited for over 3 months to get to this point on the house, so we don't want to start the whole thing over. We knew the fridge and stove were leaving so that money is already put aside. And we're buying the house for about 100k less than its worth so its still an amazing deal.
Our agent is pushing the bank to replace the kitchen or drop the cost, and the appraiser did take into consideration that it has no working kitchen so we'll see what comes out of that.

Even if it just a stove, fridge and some plywood initially, the pantry is bigger than my current kitchen and we'll get her there eventually.
  • I would still buy the house.  That way I can get the kitchen I really want.

Luckily for you, the appraisal happend after they took out the kitchen.    Is there a chance they can remove more items from the house?

  • Yeah that's a good point Lynda, at least you can make the kitchen exactly what you want it to be!

  • The guy is currently in New York so the house is now all locked up. He was very nice about removing the stuff though. Hardwood floor is not scuffed at all, walls all cleaned, floor swept and vaccumed, etc. He even left the contract and original check from when he put the cabinets/counterop in a year ago! The guy spent almost 20k on the kitchen, and sold it for $1500. He's losing over 100k on the house itself.

The story we heard from his agent is he could no longer pay the electric bill and had to move out. So he sold the kitchen in order to have enough money to move to NY where he is staying with his parents (keep in mind, this is a guy in his mid 40's).

Go go dream (up to what we can afford) kitchen!
  • oh god. really.. how sad is that.  Now the house will be worth even less..  How does that help him?

  • Are you doing an FHA? Will the bank allow you to move in with no kitchen? We just closed 2 weeks ago on our home and the front porch concrete was all jacked up so they made us replace the entire porch before we even signed to own the home. It was a night mare. I hope this doesnt snag anything for you. Goodluck!!!
