  • NYS Senator Diane Savino speaks on the Marriage Equality bill
  • I just don't see how any rational person could listen to that argument and still be against gay marriage.  She made lots of interesting points.  The most important to me though, was that it's not the government's place to determine who can get married.  Churchs can denounce it til they're blue in the face, but it will never be the government's job to police marriage.

Wow, I actually sat through the whole thing. She drew me in. I really liked a lot of the things she said, especially the point of calling marriage a "privilege" (which is what we have made it into, unfortunately) and speaking to how we abuse the privilege. I've believed that for a long time. That said, I think her extreme presentations of the gay couples she knew vs. little girls growing up planning their big days was a bit of a turn off. She doesn't need to pander to gay couples or express her hetero guilt to make the excellent points she made.

Also, I laughed at "pretty princess day" and consider it a shout-out to P&E.

    Thanks for the video, Fishy!

I have to disagree with this a little bit.  I would like the government to police marriage to some extent.  For example, I don't really want polygamy or child marriage to be legal.  Obviously, those are different from gay marriage, but still, there need to be some ground rules.
  • Cocoreo, you're right.  I meant between two consenting adults. I should have been clearer on that.

  • That makes sense, Lauren.  And I didn't really think you meant that the other things would be acceptable.

  • Marrying children and polygamy are such foreign concepts to me that I forget that it actually happens in some places.
