Talk to me about Spanx or Spanx-like products

I have the black-tie affair this weekend.  I really need something like Spanks to smooth out my butt area.  The dress falls in such a way that you will see a pantyline.   I've never used anything like that before.

What (if anything) do you use?

eta - see I don't know anything about them I spelled them name wrong.

  • I used the high waisted power panty I think they are called. They are really sexy and go all the way from under the boob to mid thigh. HOT. But they are awesome and smooth out all your lumps.
  • Spanx! I love my spanx.

I know some people find them hard to wear but I don't. I think they are comfy for what they are and it really slims me out. Makes it everything smooth.

  • True story, Shan.

They also make crotchless ones, if you're interested, so you don't have to struggle in and out of them every time you go to the ladies room. I wore those for my wedding reception - life saver, let me tell you!
  • Spanxs are awesome. The Target brand Assets is good too. Not quite as good, but still pretty awesome.
  • I have Spanx and something else (I cannot remember the name) from Macys.  Either brand is fine.   I only wear them if 1.) it's a dress that will show ANY VPL or 2.) I'm super bloated and it's a clingy dress.

Otherwise, I just find that I'm too much of a baby to suck it up and deal with the tightness on my body.  If it's a dress that I just need to slightly smooth things out, I buy a pair of seamless nude boy shorts and wear those. I ALWAYS try those before I hit the Spanx.
  • I love my Spanx! I have the higher waisted power panty and it is the best thing ever! You definitely have to do the "spanx dance" to get into it though.

  • Ditto Shannyn! The Power Panty is my hero. It's not terribly uncomfortable, and it really smooths everything out. I think it is worth the money to get the name brand Spanx in this case.
  • Spanx or the target brand of spanx - I bought one pair of each probably 5+ years ago and I've totally forgotten which is which - and they're both still in good condition. I wear a pair any time I wear a dress, I just think it feels more comfortable.

  • If it's not something that you'll be wearing on a regular basis, I'd go with the Target brand - Assets.

They have the high wasted underwear ones, as well as ones that have legs attached.  If you're worried about an underwear line, I'd go with the latter.

    Crotchless spanx sound dirty, BJs.

  • The Spanx I wore for my wedding weren't crotchless, but they had a gusset thingie so I could go to the bathroom. Since Spanx are kind of a pain in the  butt to get in and out of, I found it pretty useful.

I've also worn some of the Target brand ones, and they were fine. They were a bit easier to get on and off, but they didn't have the crotch gusset (that sounds awful).
  • Has anyone tried the slip/half slip version of spanx?  I'm wondering if it works as well.  That could be an option for those of you worried about having to use the facilities while wearing them.

Also, it looks like the Target version is designed by Sara Blakely (designer of Spanx) which would explain why they are a good cheaper alternative.

  • I know not many people wear them anymore, but will you be wearing pantyhose?  Maybe try a control top or firming style.

  • I <3 my spanx. They smooth everything out! I have the ones that go from my belly button to mid thigh. I never wear underwear with them so panty lines is never an issue.

  • can someone tell me where they got their crotchless spanx (or spanx alternative)?  I've looked all over the internet and I can't find anything of the sort...I just dont want to have huge issues going to the bathroom in a huge dress lol
