Random Invitation Question (promise it's not about wording or who gets an invite!)

Would it be weird to have invitations that didn't go with our color scheme? We're going with yellow and gray, but invitations are pretty much on the bottom of the list of importance to us. I've found a ton of pretty, CHEAP black and white ones on Vista Print. I just feel like people look at an invite for 2 seconds, write down the info, and pitch it. Seems like a waste to spend the extra money for color coordinated stuff. Thoughts?

  • I would NOT think twice if I got a invitation that "didn't match your theme!"  I don't even think I would have remembered.  Ours were probably cheaper, print your own and people thought we were so smart for not blowing our budget on fancy invites.  They get thrown away.  I'd rather have an open bar.
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

  • Jill.  Do you really think that people are going to bring the invite and compare it to your decor??

Go with what you like and fits well in your budget.  They don't have to match at all.

  • I don't think it's a big deal to have the invites match the "theme".  honestly i don't think people (non brides) pay attention to that.  :) I'd go ahead and order them off visaprint and save the cash for something you DO care about.

  • I say go for it. Cheap is cheap, and no one will remember. Ours didn't really match either. Our wedding was pretty much entirely purple with hints of lime green, and the invites were a mossy green. In fact, none of our paper products really went together.

  • Sookie, I don't know what I'm thinking. I have way too much time to plan this thing and start way overthinking.
  • How much longer do you have?

Don't overthink stuff!  Go have a beer instead...there are lots of good suggestions in the post below.  :)

  • 414 days. Not that I'm counting or anything.
  • A girl on my local just bought her invites.  And her wedding is 14 months away.

  • If my mother had her way, everything would be all matchy matchy.  But, she's not so, GASP!!  I have cherry blossoms on my invite and I"m going to have orchids in my centerpieces.

If people care that much, then I would really have to wonder if they are worth the hassle.
  • I know. BUT! we're getting engagement pictures taken next month and moving into our new apartment, so that's exciting
  • I've never seen a color coordinated wedding invitation.

All I get are the traditional cream with black

    Ooo!  That is exciting!

I guess I always assumed that your sig pic was an e-pic.  I'm surprised that it's not!

  • Heh. I've heard that before. It's sort of one of Rick's senior pictures. The girl who took them was just starting out and wanted some practice taking pictures of couples. I just really like the picture and don't think we've changed much looks wise in the last 4 years. It'll be replaced with a real engagement picture in a month or so
  • And TR, that's insane. I'm nowhere close to ordering anything, just looking and thinking about things. The ONLY way I would order anything super early is if I found a too-good-to-pass-up deal.
  • I've heard some people say that they avoid wearing the color on the invitations so as not to match the BMs. So if you could do a yellow seal or envelope, I think that would rock!
