videographer

It doesn't appear as though there is enough room in the budget to have a videographer.  Are we going to regret this?  Should we cut something else down to make room for it?

Re: videographer

  • I didn't have one.  Instead, I asked one of my friends if she wanted to shoot a video of the ceremony with my camera.  She agreed, so that's what we did.  It's not professional but it worked for us.

  • JMO but I've yet to see a videographer who was not disruptive to the ceremony.

I don't think that you'll regret it but that's just me.

I'm sure others will post after me
  • Ahhhhh..... thank you!  I was hoping that we weren't cheating ourselves out of something that we would someday want.  I feel better now.

  • FI and I are having the same debate, as the video of his brother & SIL's wedding is fantastic... or, more so, of the reception. But he and I have agreed thus far that the photographs will be on display all the time, whereas the video is something that will have to be pulled out to make a point of seeing it...

    ... I doubt you'll regret it.
  • I agree with PP's. I don't have personal experience, but they all made great points. We've been debating too, and even though my fiance's a wedding photographer, we agree that we don't want to pay the money for a video that will probably sit on a dvd shelf until the occasional pull off the shelf. Pictures will suffice. You could always do like another poster wrote and have a family member bring a small video camera and tape at key points- ceremony, first dance, toasts and cake cutting, etc. Not sure if you or your fiance are tech-savy, but my fiance created a beautiful video of the day of my college graduation from only taping at key times that day, no special equipment, but just as emotional.

  • We hired an amazing photographer, so we're relying on that. We will have a couple people taking video though, just with a handheld camcorder :D
  • We're not having one, but I'm gonna ask my dad to camcord some stuff, including our first dance & the ceremony.

Also, my parents didn't have one (obviously--camcorders were not invented!!) and they are just fine!  haha

  • We did not plan to have one.  My MIL hired a friend to do it as a surprise.  Worst surprise ever and we still haven't seen the video, nor do we want to.  We figured the pictures would be more likely to be looked at on a regular basis.  If we'd had an unlimited budget, we might have gotten one just for fun, but it was pretty far down the list.
  • We did not hire one professionally. My husband's Aunt and Uncle videotaped the ceremony and most of the reception (until the battery died) for us and then burned it onto a DVD and edited it, etc. It turned out really nice, very professional looking. H's Uncle is really good with computers, so we were really thankful for that. They graciously offered to do it when we told them we couldn't afford a videographer.
  • We aren't hiring one...instead we bought a few of those flip video cameras and people are going to be taking videos of random stuff.  And my cousin will be taping the ceremony.  IMO it's more fun to the see the videos of people having fun and being silly than anything else!

  • We had one and don't regret the money at all, but.....we've only watched the DVD once.  We said we would watch it every anniversary but that hasn't happened yet.  I don't think we would miss it if we didn't have it.
