Tell me what to do in Vegas.

I'm going to Vegas at the end of this month with H. We'll be there Friday-Monday, and we're staying at the MGM Grand. We've already bought tickets to see Cirque du Soliel "O", but nothing else is really planned. So, what should we do? Where should we eat, drink, shop, gamble? We'll splurge here and there, but we definitely need some cheap options too.

Re: Tell me what to do in Vegas.

• Hoover Dam is neat and not very expensive. Take the tour that takes you down inside the dam. It's impressive! The Rio buffet is kind of expensive, but you'll eat until you can't move!
The Treasure Island show is free and pretty damn cheesy. But, it's free. It's at night only, I think and it's outdoors.

The funnest thing to do is people watch and, the later it gets, the skankier the outfits get. We played, "Pro or Ho". It was a fun guessing game. :-)

• You need Pandaface for this!

We stayed at Planet Hollywood last time we went and loved gambling there. There is also a mall attached, so you can shop.

We ate at Diick's one night. I've always heard about it and we don't have one here so we went. It was fun!

I'm no help.
Amy, is that the same as Mesa Grill in NYC?
Posted by annakb8
Yes, it's Bobby Flays restaurant.

It was one of the best meals I've had and I eat a lot of good meals.
• I love to Gamble and Eat and that is what I do in Vegas. Oh and go to the pool...but it's obviously too cold for the pool right now.

I'm going in March for NCAA and for my birthday and we have these things on our list (we have 12 ppl going):

Nice Dinner maybe at Mario Batali's restaurant'
Gamble
Rent Mega Cabana and sit poolside all day long
Gamble
Bottle service at Haze
Gamble
A night at the sports book gambling on the Sweet 16
Gamble
Gamble
Gamble

As you can see I might have a problem.
• Check out Battista's Hole in the Wall on Flamingo (about a block from the strip), they have decent, cheap Italian food and free house wine all you can drink! Not the best food or wine, but not bad either, and it's kind of an old-Vegas staple. I second Shannyn regarding Fremont Street, downtown is a lot of fun. Go at night so you can check out the Fremont Street Experience (light show).

• Get the duece bus pass. I think its $10 per person for 24 hours of service. It takes you all way from the shops at the very top of the strip (town square I think) all the way back to Fremont. Caesars has some shopping (a little pricier) and also there is the fashion show mall mid strip that has all the other regular mall shops you want.

NYNY has a cheap cafe that is really good if you don't want to spend much. Mandalay Bay also has a good cafe, and I have heard a ton of good things about their buffet. Rio buffet is someplace we always have to hit, its amazing. We had our reception at Maggianos which is attached to the fashion show mall that is super awesome.

I was just going to say this as well. It's a seafood buffet and you can get unlimited lobster tail.
• I gamble a lot too Amy. I get all itchy if I walk through the casino without putting any money in.

That is me. I literally can't walk through a casino without gambling.

I'll be walking by a Roulette table and throw down the minimum on red or black just for sh!ts and giggles.
• If you are looking for another show rec, I LOVE Phantom of the Opera (at the Venetian).

Also, you should check out Minus 5, there's one in Mandalay Bay and one in the Monte Carlo. It's an ice bar and is pretty cool (pun intended). They tell you not to bring in your camera, but that's only because they have a photographer in there and want to charge out the ass for a picture. Bring your camera phone.

I went to the one in NY, it was pretty good. I think I had duck something and duck is always good in my book.

• NYNY has a dueling piano bar that is awesome. FI and I went there, got a couple drinks, sang along, made some new friends...really good time!

Mesa Grill is amazing!!! Definitely get in there if you can.

"O" is unbelievable, we saw that our first night. The second night, we saw "Ka" using the hotel discount (we stayed at the MGM). Great seats, cheap tickets, fantastic show!

The Brazilian steakhouse at Mirage is really, really yummy. Definitely recommend it!

The MGM has a great Mexican place too.
• We were in Vegas in June - a fun way to watch the Bellagio watershow is to go up to the Eiffel Tower and watch it from there.

If you're looking for a cheap snack, there's a tiny casino (O'Somethings, an Irish-themed one) next to the Flamingo hotel and Margaritaville that'll give you a hot dog and a 16 oz beer for 3 bucks. That was a nice, cheap late-night snack for us.

We really enjoyed the free stuff ... the statue show in Caesar's Forum, the pirate show outside another one of the hotels, etc. We didn't actually pay to see any shows since we were there only for a weekend.

If you're into the club scene, Tao Bar was a LOT of fun - that's the reason we were in Vegas (a meet&greet) and it was great. Beautiful atmosphere, good drinks, good DJs.

O'Sheas! They have $5 roulette all the time. Amazing. But they spin so fast! We spent a few late nights there when we were there in November.
• Been to Vegas 5 ot 6 times. I love it and I don't even gamble.

Do not do buffet of buffets pass. I did that last time and officially sworn off buffets in my life.

The best meal I had my last trip was in n out burger. Cost under $5. Its a few blocks off the strip (behind ny ny and Excalibur I believe)

I would splurge one (or two nights) on a top restaurant. Just yelp reviews. I enjoy just wandering around the casinos and looking at the architecture and decor. I'm in love with the new city center places.

Perhaps worse than nyc...Vegas sucks the money out of you. But like nyc an amazing city.

PS- go to the sugar candy store in Paris. really good (although overpriced) candies and sweets....the gourmet chocolate restaurant attached is awesome too.

My friends and I LOVE that place. Even when we are staying at a nice hotel, we have to make a stop there.
I hit a royal flush in three card once and I was so excited...until I got paid for it.
I forgot they were $2 tables not the $15 Im used to. LOL I was sad when I only won like $200 instead of the $600 or so I thought it would be.

• I don't know if they still do it - but if you have any interest in the Rat Pack - there's a show at the Greek Isles that does a great tribute show. The guy who "plays' Joey Bishop is Buddy Hackett's son and spent lots of time with the real Joey Bishop perfecting the show from the originals.

Also if it's still there - the Casino Royale had $.50 roulette tables. Best 3 hours/$15 I ever spent.
You may not want to do this is you're already seeing "O", but we went to Cris Angel's "Believe" show last year and it was really cool. If you want to splurge on a nice/expensive dinner, go to the Eifel Tower restaurant at Paris hotel. NOM.
Posted by LP11509
This! The best chicken and scalloped potatoes I have ever had!! It was delicious! Oh and I loved it when the waiter came by with afancy looking metal scraper to scrape all the breadcrumbs off the table...it was so funny...so not use to fine dining :)

• The Cosmopolitan has the most amazing buffet. We went there twice in the week we were there for our wedding.

We also had a super splurge dinner at the Eiffel Tower restaurant. I thought it might be gimmicky, but it was really delicious.

O'Shea's and Casino Royale are my favorite spots to gamble on the strip, thanks to their low minimums! One day, I played $1 roulette for a couple of hours. It was so fun!
• Penn and Teller's show at the RIO hotel. Wonderful and not expensive when you get the 1/2 price tickets at the TKTS booth up by the Venetian hotel.
• Neon Boneyard (google it). Fun, cool. You go during the day and get to see OLD vegas signs. They tour you around and give you a history on the city's hotels. About a 10-15 minute cab ride from the strip.

Old Vegas. It's dirty. It's cheap. And I love it.

I had a really good panini at Earl of Sandwich or somecrap in planet hollywood hotel.

Hit up the outlet mall, obviously.

Just walk around and stop for snacks and drinks along the way. We didn't really plan much while we were there. Just went with the flow. And did what we felt like. And I think that's the kind of trip vegas should be. Unless you want to go see a show really badly or whatever. Maybe make a loose itinerary.
