This is going to be a long stressful weekend.

I know I shouldn't be talking about this so early, but I am not ready to talk about it IRL yet and I am so stressed out.

My husband and I decided to start TTC this summer.  I went off my pill at the end of July, and according to 4 home tests and a doctor's test I am pregnant!!  I am stunned that it happened so quickly and so happy.  I just found out Sunday so it still seems surreal.

I went to my gynecologist Wednesday to get a confirmation and to get a referral for an obstetrician since she is not an OB.  I have an appointment with him on Monday and she went ahead and sent me to get an ultrasound since I have had some mild cramping and low back pain and because I am high risk due to being 38.

At my ultrasound the technician saw no pregnancy, and abnormal development for how far along I should be (5 weeks).  She did not see a tubal pregnancy.  So either something is going wrong, or I am a couple weeks earlier than they thought, which would explain not seeing anything yet.  My periods are irregular so it could explain having a longer cycle.

I went in today for a blood test, will get another on Sunday to see if my hormones are rising as they should and will hear if the pregnancy is ok or not on Monday.

I cried for 2 hours yesterday, but today I am feeling more hopeful.  I feel like I am going to go crazy waiting to see the doctor on Monday.

Does anyone out there have a story of an early ultrasound showing nothing, yet turning out fine?  This weekend is going to be torture...I don't know if I should feel elated or crushed.

  • Aw, sweetie.  I don't have any answers for you, but I really, really hope things will be good for you.  All my best.
  • Im so sorry you cant get a straight answer :( thats so frustrating and nerve wracking. Did you try a few different brands of tests? I hope everything works out sascha!
  • That stinks.  I also have no words of wisdom on the situation.  Just try to keep yourself busy as best you can, and try not to dwell on either possibility.

  • Oh Sasha :( I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and feel to pm me if you need to talk!
  • Thank you for the good thoughts:)

I took 2 different brands of tests Nebb, and the doctor took one too.

I have been reading a lot on the subject and they do say that a heartbeat is not detectable until at least 7 weeks.  5 weeks should show a dark spot where the baby is starting to develop but no details.  I did not have that.  So I am really just hoping that maybe I am only 2-3 weeks.  5 weeks is too early for an ultrasound, but they wanted to be extra cautious.  I guess it is good that they ruled out an eptopic.

  • Jen,

You'll be okay.  If not now, then later this year.  I'll be thinking of you since you are procreating on my behalf.  I wouldn't recommend TB since I hear those women are BSC but maybe you want to lurk over there a bit.  And see if anyone shares your experiences.

I haven't seen you around.  I miss you much!

    love, smokey

Aw thanks :) We'll all get there one day, just hopefully sooner than later!
  • You will Katie!

Smokey...I have to rep the hot old ladies on the board!  Yes, TB is a scary place.  I looked at it a couple times.  I guess it may be time to start lurking more often.   I knew we should have gotten drunk together the last time you were in Vegas!  Now it hopefully may be a while before that happens.  I haven't been around much lately on here, but I miss you much too!  And thank you for being there:)  Your pic is so beautiful...it makes me smile:)

  • The only board I've found so far that doesn't scare me is the Trouble TTC board. They seem really supportive of each other and have a ton of information.
  • Yay!

Well get pregnant soon so if I end up with a Vegas wedding we will be able to have a drink that weekend.  We are looking at October 2011 so get on it already, woman!

I get all weepy every time I look at the picture.

However, Mark described the noise I made like a laugh and a cry at the same time.  He said, "it sounds like a seal barking."

    Nice.  eh?

  • Oh yay!!  Thank you Mag!!  That is the kind of story I was hoping to hear:)

Yes, they said at 5 weeks I should show a sac, but it is so possible I am less than that.  I only had one period after going off the pill and it was a 6-7 week cycle.  My periods before the pill were often 8 weeks apart.  Once I went 4 months without one.

I have been taking tests every few weeks just to be cautious because I usually have a couple glasses of wine a night and wanted to make sure I knew early to stop drinking or taking unnecessary medications.  I do not feel pregnant yet, except for feeling tired.  And the last 3 times I had wine it made me super tired and nauseous.

I am really just hoping I found out really early.

  • Oh Squirrly, I must have missed that...I am very sorry to hear about your loss:(  But I am really happy that things are going better for you now.  Thank you for the information and the offer to chat.

They did look at my ovaries to see if there was a cyst or anything and she said my ovaries looked good.  But that was the technician, not the doctor.  I can ask him on Monday if he saw anything.

Congratulations to you and jessjo...and I cannot believe how anxious I am to put up a ticker!  The fruit ticker is the cutest one I have seen!

The more I think about your post, the more I think you're just earlier that you thought. If you got a positive pregnancy test, then youre pregnant. If you havent had bleeding, then you are probably still pregnant. I'm sure you'll have your own fruit ticker up soon!

(And btw, you cant be 2 weeks pregnant... conception happens at 2 weeks, the first two weeks are waiting to ovulate. Crazy pregnancy counting.)

ETA: I took out cramping as a bad sign. Mild cramping is normal. I actually had debilitating cramps for 4 weeks for no reason and my baby is doing fine!

  • I like your thinking!
That's good to know jess.  I told the doctor mine are not bad or extreme at all, just a constant dull ache...unless I stand up too fast from a seated position which gives me a sharp pain, but that happens to me from time to time normally.  They are pretty constant, and my lower back keeps aching.  I actually read the cramping could be the baby implanting.

That crazy pregnancy counting throws me so off!  Especially when my ovulation likely was not at the two week point.

  • If you have a positive test, then its probably not implantation cramping (that would have happend a week or two ago), but based on the posts on the first trimester board, I think more people have cramping between 4-8 weeks than don't. That and the backpain are probably just your body getting used to the changes. Even though the baby is tiny at this point, the hormones cue your body to make all sorts of weird changes.

Also, pregnancies are always dated by your last menstrual period, since most people dont know when they ovulate (and I guess the standard was set before they knew how to track ovulation anyway). So if you count from the first day of your last period, that should give you how far along you are 'technically'. That obviously assumes you ovulated on day 14, which most people dont. You'll get a more accurate date at your next ultrasound.

Wow, thats long, but hope it helped :)
