Ceremony music

Does anyone have ideas of what to do for ceremony music? We can't afford to spend $100-200 on live musicians and the DJ wants to charge us over $200 to play outside! Is an IPod hook up tacky?

Re: Ceremony music

  • Not at all. We used a boombox. That's the last thing your guests are going to pay attention to.
  • I think it's practical! Our DJ also wanted too much money for a ceremony set up, so we're planning on hooking small speakers up to a cd player. Then we can hang them from the corners of the pavilion and keep the wires up out of the way. Hopefully we'll be able to cover some of it up with decorations. I'm going to ask a good friend who isn't in the WP to run the cd player.
  • Ceremony music was really important to us, so we splurged on a guitar/flute duo, but honestly, I didn't even really hear them because I was so overwhelmed/emotional. I've seen iPod ceremonies done before - it was actually okay. Just make sure you test the volume and settings prior to it runs smoothly the day of. I would recommend using instrumental music though if you don't want to draw attention to the fact that it's an iPod.
  • We're using the synagogue's CD player, which will be hooked into its sound system.  We're making our own CD.  We'll just test it out before the actual ceremony, and then have a guest to push the buttons at the right time.
  • I just bought a ipod speaker set uo for my iphone and I created a playlist for the ceremony in the order the songs will be played and they sound great.  Some of the songs I had to adjust the volume control in itunes to match the others but it seems to be good.  I have to go to the location and see how loud it actually really needs to be outside vs inside our condo.  My question is, approx how long does each song need to be and do you pick the part of the song you like and play that or would that sound tacky? The entrance/seating songs can just be played 15 20 minutes before I arrive (we are only having immediate family ceremony). So do i just go to the location and time the walk and then play the the bridal party and the brides song for that long? One other question, we are having a song during the sand ceremony, what are ideas for that? My idea is playing it softly in the background while the officiant talks about the sand ceremony means and us pouring of the sand.  however the sand ceremony we are separating into two sec: 1.  pouring of the sand by me and by my fiance into our separate vases and then we are doing the ring ceremony and then 2.  pouring the sand together into the third vase.  Does the music sound too broken up?
