FI's job F/U

FI and I haven't actually spoken, just IM'd, so I don't have all the details yet. But the general consensus between FI and his supervisors is that this isn't a good fit. They said everyone (including FI) needed to reevaluate the whole situation. FI said it was a very civil, respectful conversation, but on the whole it didn't go well. Basically, they want him to create a network security consulting division out of thin air. FI doesn't know whether he'll stay and try to do that or just find a new job directly related to his career field. The good news is, he started getting his resume together a few months ago, and it's ready to send out to prospective employers. So he's putting feelers out and weighing options. Oddly, I'm optimistic and not freaking out. FI is smart and well versed in his field and I feel like we're gonna come out of this ok. Thanks for reading and for the vibes earlier.

  • If it's not a good fit, then it's not good for anyone.  It sounds like everyone is being professional and mature about it- but I'd say no matter what, your FI should be looking for a new job ASAP.

  • Hope it all works out, LC!

  • Oh, I missed the vibes post, but I'm sorry to hear that.  It sounds like he's got it decently under control though.  Good luck to you guys!
  • Kiki, I couldn't agree more. I told FI I would be happy with whatever he decides to do, because ultimately it is his decision. I think what he's doing is biding his time at his current company, because they made it clear no one was going to get fired in the near future, until he can secure something else. I'm crossing my fingers. Thanks ladies.

While the situation sucks, that's a very stand-up attitude from them, so that's kinda awesome.

  • Yeah Squirlly, they've treated him really well and are being really awesome about the whole thing. So that's good.

  • I was in a similar position, and very frustrated and when assigned a new task after my review, it was with the attitude on my part, that every day I spent was another day of experience, and one less day in my living room, which in this economy, at least here in Detroit, is a huge deal. Good luck! Hope everything continues to move in a positive direction and it sounds like the current company at least values him as an employee, whether or not it is a good fit.
