I'm gunna AW for a bit...

I really wanted a fascinator for my reception, but didn't want to pay oodles for one off of etsy.

So, I DIY'ed one tonight. And I think it turned out pretty well.

  • LOVE it!
I've been considering making myself a feathered headband or even fascinator to wear on the cruise...but I'm not sure if it would seem silly. Was it easy to make?
  • It wasn't hard to make at all...The hardest part was keeping the feathers away from the kitten. He made the whole process twice as long.

  • Very nice!

I had never heard of a fascinator until The Knot.

  • And speaking of fascinators, that one reminds of veronabrit, who hasn't been around in a while.

Rach, you seriously need to put that pretty thing in a tupperware and lock it away. My kitty got ahold of my fascinator not once, but twice. Once was before the wedding (I had just gotten it and didn't realize it looked so much like a cat toy), and I salvaged it from the gnarls of kitty spit. The second time was after the wedding, when it was in a box on the top shelf of my closet, which was closed. Monkey somehow got into the closet, climbed up to the top, found it, and chewed it to pieces. I came home to feathers everywhere. Thank goodness it was after the wedding, but I'm sad that I can't keep it the way it was.

    Just a cautionary tale. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

Umm..good idea!! Right now, it's chillin/drying on the fire place mantle, and I don't think he can get up there (yet). He's such a PITA though, so it wouldn't surprise me.

  • I've been teaching.

At work until 5 or 6, drive 30 minutes home, eat, and just zone out.

Plus, after the wedding, the last thing I wanted to discuss was wedding planning.

Oh, and WTF happened to the P of P&E? Again, not cool.
  • Seriously! where have you been?

Yeah, it's amazing what cats will do to mess with something they want. :) The fascinator is really pretty though!

  • thanks, bg!!!

night--all it was, was an alligator clip, a small piece of felt (oval shapped) glued to the clip, and then feathers glued clockwise around the piece of felt, and a broach in the middle Laughing

  • I heard when you first got the job, congrats on that!

Don't worry about filling the time, it should easy. I swear, the time after the bell rings is a black hole. Suddenly it's 4:00 and all I've done is make an example for tomorrow's art project and I still have homework to grade and copies to make.
  • I had a feeling it would be like that, that's good to know.

  • Where did you get the supplies?  Can one purchase small quantities of felt?  Did you use hot glue?

  • i actual used a clip and felt from a hair clip I got at forever 21. I used E6000 craft glue...it's clear and super strong. but you can buy felt by the sheet (the size of a piece of paper) at hobby lobby/ michaels craft store. The clips are easier to find at regular stores.

  • Did you trim the feathers yourself?  Can you tell I'm probably doing this over Christmas?
