NWR: Zombified Pics

I'm not even sure why I'm posting this; it's just kind of bugging me and wanted to get some feedback, I guess.

Last week was the return of The Walking Dead, and my husband and I are big fans. On their FB page, they have a thing where you can "zombify" yourself by uploading a picture and then turning yourself into a zombie by cutting and pasting pre-made gory parts onto yourself. So we both made zombie profile pics and then took one of our wedding pics, zombied that up, and made it our cover photos. A few of our friends did the same.

A few people "liked" them and made comments like, "Cutest zombie couple ever!" and stuff like that. Every one of us who did it have also gotten PMs from people asking why we did it, take it down; it's gross, etc. To the person who asked me, "Why would you do this?"  I said, "Umm, b/c I love The Walking Dead, it's its return week, and I enjoy the occasional novelty gimmick." We aren't leaving them up there forever; it's just temporary fun, like dressing up on Halloween.

So my question is: Is this a big deal?  Does this offend you in some way?  IS it in poor taste?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Re: NWR: Zombified Pics

  • That's so weird. I can't think of any reason this would be offensive or a big deal. Are these people that vocally uptight about other things? I mean, my mom doesn't like ugly things (zombies included), but she would never tell anyone to take down a picture because it was ugly.

  • I would not be offended by this and I don't think it's in poor taste at all. Some people just get their panties in a twist over silly things. The good thing about the internet is that if you don't want to look at something you don't have to click on it. I think it was really out of line that people asked you to take it down. That would just make me want to do it more/ keep it up for longer.

<div>I can't speak for the others (well, one was our friend's MIL, so possibly), but for ours, no. I just don't get it!  Thanks for the replies, ladies. Good to know I'm not somehow some gross, insensitive clod. </div><div>
</div><div>Lia, that would have been a hoot. It reminds me of something that happened recently. My husband always asks what the latest drama on here is, and last week I told him something about somebody worrying over their "theme," and he said, "I think the only theme should be wedding. Unless, of course, it's zombies."  Hahaha!</div>

  • Haha, I "zombified" myself for the Walking Dead return, too.  I don't get why anyone would care enough to message you and ask you to take it down.  Weird.

[QUOTE]I have a friend who loved to post pictures of his baby eating along with a picture of the baby's diaper, soiled with poo resembling the baby food in color and texture. So gross. So, so gross, especially since I usualy only check fb during lunch. I hid his posts, problem solved for everyone, no one offended.

Umm, gross! I would have hid that shitt too (pun intended).

Addie, I see nothing wrong with manipulating your own photo like that.  I agree that some people are just uptight and need to scroll past things like that if they don't like it.

<div>Holy wow. I had a friend post a pic of his baby's first use of the big boy potty. And by that I mean the product IN the potty, but fortunately it was just pee. I said, "Did you really just post a pic of your kid's pee?"  Another friend posts constantly about the bowel movements of her special needs child. DESCRIPTIVE posts. Like consistency, etc. Fortunately, there are no pics. WTF is wrong with people?</div>

  • I don't see how it's any different than a Halloween costume. The only image I've found grossly offensive on fb is when someone posted a picture of their dead child.

  • Unless someone close to them has recently become a Zombie there is no reason to be so uptight lol

<div>People actually did this on FB?? That seems beyond morbid and disrespectful to the child. </div>

  • I can't stand it when H watches Walking Dead, but I just go to another room. If I saw zombie pics on FB, I would scroll past them. NBD.
  • I zombified us too, and got no comments. Of course, out Christmas cards this year were my teens dressed up like Santa zombies with the tagline "Season's Eatings and Happy Zombie Apocolypse". So people expect stuff like that from us!

  • As a zombie myself, I'm horribly offended... why are you people making pictures to look like me, but then running away when I try to hug you? My feelers are so hurt...
    Praying for a miracle!
  • People are weird. You're nicer than I am. I would've responded "because I felt like it duh"

Yup. It was pretty horrible. People were absolutely distraught enough, but to see that was just the end. I don't even think anyone said anything to the child's father, either, because what can you say that he'll listen to, ya know?

</div><div>Omg that would be SUCH an awkward conversation to have. I realize that everyone's grieving process is different, but man, that had to be an awful shock because, who's expecting that ish?

<div>I have people on my FB list who are complete strangers.  I added them for games I no longer play, but haven't gone through and removed them.  One woman on my list had to give birth when she was only 6 months pregnant, because her child had a very rare genetic disorder.  (I literally cried for her and I have never met her!)  She posted ALL of the details of doctors visits leading up to the birth and then photos of the delivery and photos of the child.  Not surprisingly, she had a TON of backlash, because she did not filter these posts at all.  </div><div>
</div><div>I think my favorite post in the moth after was: "My therapist says I need to stop posting all my problems on Facebook."  Guess who didn't listen....  I am still waiting to be eliminated in one of her mass deletes, but so far I keep making the cut!</div>
