We had to put Nimbus to sleep today.

Those of you who have been here a while know of the medical problems my cat had before my wedding last summer (5 weeks of a feeding tube) and that he was diagnosed with congenital heart failure with a prognosis of 2-12 weeks back in April. You guys have been so loving and supportive.

Nimbus was taken to the vet last week and was there overnight. He's been having his chest drained of fluid every 2 months or so since April. At that time, his cardiologist said his heart had progressed and was in pretty bad shape, but he kept plugging away, and was still behaving like his normal Nimbus self. This morning, Nimbus suddenly started wobbling on his back legs. Oliver had today off and I had taken today off, so we were both home. I got into the shower and during that time, Nimbus was completely dragging his legs. By the time I got out of the shower, we had both come to the conclusion that this was most likely the end. Teh cardiologist said he might have had a mild blood clot, but that with his heart issue, he was likely to have another one, possibly a major one, soon. And while he was trying to walk at the vet, he still couldn't really walk normally.

Everyone at the hospital where he was treated loved him a lot. Even the cardiologist was crying, I think, when he put Nimbus to sleep.

Aaaaand today is my wedding anniversary. We still went out to lunch afterward, we're actually doing okay. It's a little bit of a relief to know I'll never have to come home and find Nimbus like that, and that we don't have to worry about leaving him at Christmas. He was 14, and we're confident in the medical choices we've made for him over the past year and a half.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and support with Nimbus over the past 18 months or so.
