Irrationally (No! RATIONALLY) mad at Kindle/Amazon

Why is the new Sookie Stackhouse book $14.99 for my Kindle, but only $14.70 for the hardcover ACTUAL book they have to SHIP to me?

BULLSHIT MAN.

  • That's a completely rational annoyance, and it's also really weird!

  • Yea, I totally got that one from the library because I refused to pay $15 for 2 days of reading.
  • It just makes no sense- Amazon is basically sending me an email of a book.

I guess I'll just wait or get it from the library.  Sookie is fun, but not worth $15.

  • I've been frustrated with that same thing a lot lately. I actually started buying paperbacks and swapping paperbacks on goodreads because I refuse to pay more than the paperback price for an ebook.
  • Yeah, it's because the publishers raped Amazon in the asss. Originally Amazon had all new releases/NY times best sellers for $9.99. But now that there's e-book competition, the publishers were able to renegotiate contracts with Amazon.

  • Just wait a few weeks.  Water For Elephants went down $8 in a matter of 2 weeks.
  • Yeah, this is why I download mine Embarassed I couldn't possibly afford all the books I go through in a week, let alone any actual amount of time.
  • I'm in the middle of reading Clan of the Cave Bear which is OHMYGODSOLONGANDTEDIOUS, so I'm sure it'll be cheaper by the time I'm done if I wait.

  • Same here Any.  I'll pay for some books, but there was no way in Hell I was going to pay for Twilight.

<div>Yeah, the only time I buy a book is if it's something I really want to read (like the latest Wheel of Time, the soon to be released Dance of Dragons, etc.) but for pretty much everything else, I'll try and find it online first.</div>
  • Hard backs seem to be cheaper, but, yeah, that's what I though about e-readers.  I can get MORE books for LESS.  Now, the coupons that I used to get from Borders (all of mine closed) were the best deal.  The benefit now is that I'm not piling books up in all the corners of my house, and my Nook weighs a lot less than a stack of books--especially my chem book--6.4 pounds.

  • To me, the convenience of buying another book immediately at 2 am when I can't sleep is totally worth having an e reader. Plus with my nook app I ALWAYS have my book. That said, I still try to have a stockpile of downloaded books so I don't HAVE to pay

[QUOTE]Well crap, I'm not sure if I want a Kindle for my birthday anymore then. I thought e-books are supposed to cost less than the actual books, whether it's a new release or not. Forget that.

<div>I sort my books into folders named for the author. I have over 1000 folders... *cough*</div>
  • I HATE it when they do that. I guess if you do buy the hardback, the bonus is that you could sell it at Half Price Books afterwards.

Oh, most still are, just not usually brand news ones. Old stuff is cheap or free.

I'm mad at Amazon too. I ordered my Kindle on Saturday and it still hasn't shipped.

Any, may I ask where do you get these free books?

Kiki, I like Jean M. Auel books but I do not think she's a good writer. ALL of the books are long and tedious. I read the newest one recently and it's by far the worst. I just think the setting is really interesting.

<div>Torrent/file sharing sites. I look for PDFs and just convert them with a seperate (also free) program. I've had good luck with 4shared.com for single books (Most of mine came from one massive torrent download) but you have to kind of dig occasionally. I've downloaded a couple books in Spanish once or twice, lol. </div>

Any, I tried to look for some PDFs of Spanish books for H the other day because Amazon didn't have a spcific book he wanted. I found the PDFs but realized I had absolutely no idea how to get them from the internet to my Kindle. I am a failure at pirating things.
