And Guest?

So I was wondering what the thing to do here is...every single person is allow a guest at the wedding (even if everyone comes with plus one its still a relativly small wedding).  What do I do about widows?  I don't want to be rude and not give them a guest but it seems rude to remind them that thier husband is gone (in one case recently) yet it seems rude to assume that becasue thier husband is gone they'll come by themselves...suggestions?

Thanks!!

You could add a personal note in those invites. Something like "We wanted to let you know that you are more than welcome to bring a guest to our wedding, however we understand if you would rather come on your own. We just wanted to give you the option."

In terms of not wanting to remind them that their husband is gone, I'm sure that they are well-aware and think about it all the time. It's a nice thought though.

  • It depends who they are and how well you know them. We have 3 widows on our guest list. One is my aunt, who is planning on just coming with my dad (her brother) and my dad's girlfriend. The other two are very elderly and unable to travel anyway. Pretty much every other guest is getting a plus one.

  • I would just write "and guest".  They already know that they are widowed; I highly doubt they will be offended that you reminded them.

But I would probably do what gg suggested if the death was very recent.
