Inquiring about a gift

So, we had several people ask us for our address around the time of the wedding and told us to expect a gift soon, but so far, we've received nothing in the mail. I was going to wait a few more weeks, but is it approrpiate to ask the giver if they ever sent something? I can't imagine how that conversation would go, but I also find it super weird to ask for someone's address, tell them a gift is coming, and never send anything. Three weeks ago, one person specifically said "thanks for the address. your gift is in the mail," but nothing. Not sure what to do.

Re: Inquiring about a gift

  • Do nothing.  Some people get really flaky when it comes to gifts.  They lead you on but never follow through.  Just act as though nothing was said to you by these people.  If the gifts arrive, regard it as a lovely surprise and thank the givers graciously.
  • It's weird that they would say they're sending one then not do it, but it definitely wouldn't be appropriate for you to ask.

This is different, but I am still wondering what happened to gifts on the registry that are showing as purchased, but we never recieved. Wedding mysteries, I guess.

But I agree with PPs, have to wait and see if anyone asks if you got it! I think people sometimes like to say, "it's in the mail!" becuase they feel bad that they haven't gotten anything yet, but they fully intend to do it...and then it doesn't happen. Such is life. :)

<div>I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who had gifts purchased off their registry but never received. I just assume people kept them for themselves. </div>
