I started getting RSVPs back to my adults-only wedding... can you guess what happens next?

Hi all, hoping for your opinion on this...

We've decided to have an adults-only wedding - the only exception being my ring bearer and flower girl (my MOH/sister's kids that we are both very close to). On the invites, we made sure to address them only to those invited and, just to get the point across without writing the dreaded "Adults only" - we had 'Number of Adults" instead of "Number of Guests" printed on the RSVP.

I've already dealt with one vm from a cousin that I don't speak to asking if he can bring his kids - (which I had to down 2 glasses of wine to gather up the courage to call him up and tell him no - I hate confrontation and telling people no) and now that the RSVP's are rolling in, there have been 2 so far where people have written "+ kids". One even went as far to write " + two children, a boy and girl ages 11 and 14, and they would like chicken dinners"

Seriously?

Both RSVPs are from my FI's side that neither of us know (my FMIL added them to the guestlist).

Was I not clear enough in my invitations? Thoughts?

Some people just don't get it; I'd venture to guess your FI's side has never had an adults only wedding before.  You can ask your MIL to make the calls for you since you dont really know them, but only do that if you're sure MIL will stand strong and say no when they threaten that the won't come without the kids.  good luck

My take on it... You asked how many adults would be attending as though there was a line missing asking how many kids would be attending. I'm guessing that's where the confusion is coming from. I'd call em up quick and let them know that kids are not being invited. Let your FI deal with his side and you do your side. Don't worry about the flower girl and ring bearer, they're exceptions and that's just fine.
