so my brand new dresser lost it's drawers....

on the way home from the furniture store today. My dad and FI went to get it in my dads truck, and it was super windy today, ripped open the box and the drawers flew out while driving almost hitting a car behind them!

I was SO pissed! This is our "grown up" furniture (everything matches!) I told FI "and this is why I wanted to spend the $80 for delivery. However he phoned the store and they're ordering 3 new drawers and made it seem as if they're covering the cost because their workers loaded the truck and placed the dresser with the drawers facing out.

  • Why do guys always insist on doing things themselves? FI just drove home his brand new 50" tv in the back of my toyota avalon... so much more difficult than it needed to be. I hope that your furniture is ok and your drawers get here fast!

  • Don't feel bad.

My dad insisted on helping me move my dresser 1 mile up the road.  He didn't bungie it down enough.  Halfway to the new place, it flew out the back and smashed into about 12 pieces.  WINNING, Dad.

  • haha oh man this sounds exactly like my fiance and my dad. we are moving in a few weeks and using FFIL's truck to make several trips. I called around and we can get a moving truck for $50 bucks that will allow us to do it in 1 trip. but do you think anyone agrees with me? nope! haha. FFIL, my dad and FI say that the cost of fueling the moving truck will be huge. But you know, filling up 1 big tank is going to equal far less than fueling a pickup loaded down with heavy stuff mutliple times. We are moving 10km away. I really don't think fuelling the moving truck will kill us!

but in a happy, surprising turn of events whe we were at our cake tasting the baker quoted only $40 for deliver and setup (1 hour away!) for the wedding cake. Before I could even mention to FI that I thought that was a good price he said "lets just do it, we don't want our dads messing around with an expensive cake" YES! haha.

  • Man that sucks! I'm glad the store is helping you out.

When I was moving home from college for summer break junior year, we had put everything into the back of our truck with bungie cords and tarps. Well, as we were going down the highway my aunt looked back and just casually went "Oh, there goes some boxes..." I was like WHAT?!?!?!?!?! Turns out they were just empy boxes, but I was paranoid about the rest of the stuff falling out on the rest of the 4 hour trip!!
  • That sucks.  I'm all about paying people to do stuff like that.  I feel like I'm adding to the economy and giving someone a job.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
