RD invitation wording

BRIDE and GROOM

company at
their rehearsal dinner
DAY
YEAR
TIME
LOCATION
ADDRESS
CITY, STATE

Is this ok to use on our RD invitations?  My aunt says that its tacky because we're hosting it?

[QUOTE]It's not a party in your honor though.  You're honoring the wedding party.  Same thing applies as to why it's OK to host your own wedding reception... honors the guests.

<div>Actually...yeah, it traditionally was in the bride and groom's honor.</div><div>
</div><div>This is the text from Crane's Blue Book, as the formal RD invitation (the current one, not an ancient copy):</div><div>
</div><div>Mr. and Mrs. John Peter Strickland</div><div>request the pleasure of your company </div><div>at the rehearsal dinner</div><div>in honour of </div><div>Miss Jennifer Marie Forrester</div><div>and</div><div>Mr. Nicholas Jude Strickland</div><div>date/time/etc</div><div>
</div><div>this is the informal example:</div><div>Nellie and John Strickland</div><div>request the pleasure of your company</div><div>at the rehearsal dinner for </div><div>Jen and Nick</div><div>date/time/etc</div><div>
</div><div>So I can see why the aunt thinks what she thinks. That said, OP, I'm not saying you need to pretend you aren't hosting - that's just the way it is, and it's not like not having one is an option - you've got to feed everyone after all :). But, I think the best thing for you to do is call it "the" rehearsal dinner instead of "their" rehearsal dinner. </div>

  • I just received a RD invite last week. It said it was in honor of the B&G and hosted by the bride's FIL's. That being said, I wouldn't have a problem with the way you worded it. Not sure on the etiquette of it--we are just spreading the info via word of mouth.
