Say Yes to the Dress

Watching this puts me so past grateful for my mom. These mothers are killing me with how they are talking to their daughters about these dresses. Uhg! My mom would never treat me like that.
And the whole time, my future husband was in the room...... image image

i was thinking the exact same thing when i was watching it for the first time tonight.

i would have liked my mom to be at least interested in going dress shopping with me, but no, she didnt care to. my aunt and cousins however were so great, never said anything negative.

  • They always are negative, good television I guess, keeps me coming back. A normal fitting isn't as entertaining, but it horrifies me that these people exist. I hope they see themselves on TV later and die over their behavior!!

I think Atlanta will be interesting, it cracks me up now that there is a token flamboyant man directing the stores lmao. When I go shopping I will be seriously disappointed if there isn't a "Randy-type" man there.
  • My mom loves to watch Say Yes to the Dress.  After seeing all the horrible mothers on the show, it opened her eyes I think.  Usually, my mom likes to instruct me on what to do, but when I tried on wedding dresses my mom let me pick whatever I wanted and she only gave her opinion after she heard what I said.  It made the experience enjoyable.

  • Those shows are crazy talk about giving your daughter self-esteem issues!!! The only issue I encountered when trying on dresses was that everyone had a different favorite, finally I tried on the two favorites again and then I cried and then everyone cried and it was over, those women on the show are mean!

  • I can't imagine what it must have been like for the cheerleader to have grown up with a mother like that - she was beautiful and had a figure most girls would die for and her mother was just awful.  And you could tell she was just heartbroken over the whole situation.

  • I tried to watch the Atlanta show, but both FI and I (yes, he watches...he records them for me!) got upset at the one where the bride's sisters were pointing out her "fatback" and saying she looked fat. The sample dress clearly didn't fit, but I'd have to wonder how the dress would look if it weren't so tight. Then the guy-that-isn't-Randy was so snide in his alone time w/ the camera that we finally just switched it.

Randy has said some things before, but not as biitchy as this guy. I'll stick with the regular SYTTD.

One of the sisters that was very critical was much bigger than the bride.  I was kind of like, really?  I thought the bride looked great in that mermaid dress.  Yes, it was too tight, but I'm sure in her size it will be great.  It really enhanced her curves.
  • Yeah, Atlanta show  is definitely a little more rude in general. I much prefer NYC but oh well.
  • I didn't take my mother for that very reason.  If it is not something she would wear, she is not going to like it.  She doesn't take into consideration different ages, body type, and someone else's personal taste.  However she actually liked the dress that I picked out without her.  I was surprised!

  • The Atlanta version definitely seems a bit snarkier than the NYC one which is a HUGE surprise to me.

But I wanted to slap the mother of the cheerleader too.
