Invitation Printer Problems

Cliff Notes:  Our invitations were supposed to be done on Tuesday, the printer called today and said it might be Monday before they're done.  I was so frustrated that I just said they need to be done and ended the conversation.  Should I go in or call and ask when they will be done?

The shop that is printing our invitations told me that a proof would be ready last Thursday, it wasn't until Friday.  When I went and looked at them I found a problem that was my fault.  They asked if I wanted to see a new proof before printing it and I told them I didn't want to slow up production.  They assured me that if I came in right away Monday morning to look at the proof the invitations would still be done by Tuesday.

Monday morning I called to tell them I was on my way to see the proof.  They said it wasn't done and they would call when it was.  I got a call Tuesday morning and I went in over lunch.  Everything looked good, but I decided to add another insert, I told them I would go design it and send it to them immediately.  I e-mailed it by 2:00.

I've been antsy waiting form them to call and tell me the invitations are done.  This morning they call and ask what the extra insert is for, is it supposed to be on the back of something?  So it's obvious they haven't even looked at them since Tuesday.  I answered her questions about it and she asked if I wanted another proof.  I said they really needed to be done, she said it would probably be Monday.  At this point I was so mad I just told her they needed to be done, said good bye and hung up.

Now I'm worried that they won't get done.  Should I call them back and ask for a firm time?  I feel bad because part of it was my fault, but I think it's ridiculous that they haven't even touched them since Tuesday! My wedding is six weeks away next weekend, so if I don't get them until Monday, that only leaves me the rest of the week to get them stuffed and mailed.   What should I do?

Re: Invitation Printer Problems

  • Sending an insert Tuesday at 2:00 is an additional item and with you making changes 42 times and not giving them deadlines, they couldn't have known this was so time sensitive.  You should have proofed with more time.  This is mostly your fault.  If they aren't open over the weekend, it doesn't surprise me that they might need until early next week.  You could ask for whatever portions are done and assemble those and finish the rest once they're ready.

  • They are open on Saturday, but it is mostly my fault.  They just keep acting like it's no big deal and it will get done sometime...
  • Call and say you would like to pick them up tomorrow at close and see what they say.  Be kind and sweet and nice so they might be inclined to do it.  (I worked in a print shop once.  It helps if you are appreciative of the work they do.)
