An update on the 8yr old botox story

I just saw part of an abcnews.com video that an investigation has been launched in regards to the 8yr old who was receiving botox because her mom wanted her to get rid of wrinkles for beauty pagents.  I know there was a thread about this yesterday, but I'm glad human services is investigating.

I haven't watched the whole video, but here's the link:

I think its sad that the mother would do this to an 8 YEAR OLD. I watched the news this morning and one of the broadcasters stated that the parent should not be the one to hurt the child. I agree 100%. Telling a child "no" can hurt their feeling but to actually inject a toxin into your beautiful child is down right disgusting!!

I am repulsed by this story.

  • I am actually just as, if not more, repulsed, by this mini-beauty pageant where 2 year olds wear eyeshadow and red lipstick, and 8 year olds have to have their moms shave their legs because they are judged on that.

A little girl is beautiful on her own - that's how it should work. Natural beauty, and skills that a child at that age should possess.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew

I agree with PP. I think that little girls that run around with polka dot outfits and braids are adorable. A little girl glammed up with fake teeth, a $2,000.00 dress, and an lbs of make up does not define cute to me!!

The best part of a child is their innocence - you add all that - you take somethings away from them!!

  • I hate beauty pageants.  Kids have enough to deal with without their parents forcing them to enter contests where they're judged on their looks from the time they can walk.  We should be teaching children that everyone is beautiful, not that beauty should be ranked and the prettiest person gets the crown.

  • IMO, child beauty pageants are the exploitation of children.  I saw some pics on the news piece about the 8 yr. old and she looked like a whore with the gaudy green eyeshadow - she was much prettier in the interview.

I worked for a dermatologist and we had alot of Botox customers, but the youngest was maybe in her 40s.  The only time we saw teens or children was for acne treatments or wart removals.

  • I think that the doctor should be brought up on charges as well.  For a "lighter" view of these stupid pagents, watch "Little Miss Sunshine".  I laughed a lot throughout the whole thing!
