Introduction...Better late than never?

Hi ladies :) I lurked here for a couple months and recently started posting, and a few days ago I realized I never introduced myself. I'm not sure it's required, but I do like reading these. I'm home sick from work for a couple days (stomach big landed me in the ER dehydrated last night), so I figured there's no time like the present!

Basics about me...
-I am 27, FI is 29. We've been together 3 years and 3 months, engaged for 3 months. We were LDR for about 2.5 years.
-I work in a prison. It's stressful and fun, and no two days are ever alike. I used to be an officer, now I am a substance abuse therapist.
-No furbabies (yet!) but the Sheltie my parents got us 15 years ago lives with my mom and I visit him often :)
- I am going to be an aunt twice in the next 3 months. My sister is due in 3 weeks and my brother's fiance is due in June. I am beyond excited.

Ask away, stop by to chit chat....help me keep my mind of this rumbling in my belly (along with the Zofran)!

  • @Lia- Both nieces! My brother and sister are twins, and are having girls 2.5 months apart. Big year for my family! I have had a lot of fun buying cute baby girl dresses and onesies :)

  • Greetings and salutations!

Have you and your fiance discussed what you will do in the event one of you is turned into a zombie? My husband and I have agreed if one of us should ever be a werewolf or vampire, we will turn the other, but we draw the line at zombies.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Yay for nieces!  How fun.

I am also home today.  We're getting new windows installed.  Puppy is not appreciating the sound of the saws and hammering coming from upstairs/outside.  I'm perusing the web for doggy day care.  Tomorrow we not only have more windows but a new furnace going in as well so I'm thinking she might appreciate being out of the house....

  • Addie, we have not! We have discussed how we would handle a zombie uprising, but not what we would do if one of us was turned. I have to remember to bring it up.

One of the guys I work with has put lots of thought into his zombie apocolypse plan, part of which includes taking over the prison we work in and making it our fort. When the stuff hits the fan, I want to be where that guy is.

  • Kate what a cute puppy andif I lived in the area I would offer to puppysit for you :)

I never really intr5oduced myself either and here I havfe been posting all over the place

I am 35 and live in OR and my FI is 31. We have been together for about 4 years and engaged since this last Christmas. No fur babies yet as well and we are in a rental house looking forward to buying a home in a few months just waiting on closure of the deal. Our wedding we pushed to August 23rd of next year due to our buying of a house as well as our siblings getting married this year and his business as well as my side business being rather busy this year... We figured that next year would be better so we can let our hair down and breathe for a little bit before the planning begins even though I am the one wanting to get things done all ahead of time so we can do so... I'm going to start replying since it seems like a better way to keep track :)

Yay new windows! The noise and mess can be a pain though. Your little furbaby is precious...those eyes! I am sure she would love the chance to get away from the loud noises and play with some other pups!

I will be moving into FI's house a few months before the wedding and we plan to get a fence installed so we can get a pup. We're split on breeds- I want a golden, he wants a beagle. At the end of the day we both care more about adopting from the local shelter, so the right pup can find us!

  • Hi cbrown and star!

I hope everyone who is feeling crappy today feels better. . . I think I had some bad sushi this weekend /><

I apologize because I never introduced myself either, and this is one of my favorite boards to read.

My FI and I have been togther for 11 years; We got engaged at the end of last June and we started working on our wedding this January.  We have our date and ceremony/reception sites as of yesterday!

We both have scientific backgrounds- I'm a reseracher and he has a Ph. D in Chemisrty and is working in the nuclear industry.

I have many furbabies- I have 5 cats, although only one has truly claimed me as his person.  The others are my sister's.  I have a fancy goldfish and a Missouri Foxtrotter horse.

I enjoy reading the advice and suggestions on this board especially, and a few others.  I hate to admit it, but I enjoy some of the BSC posts that occur-I know, it's horrible of me!

It is cool. I learn so much from people I would never get to interact with outside of there. Sometimes it doesn't feel important, but it is. These federal furloughs concern me big time. I want everyone to be safe.

ETA: I think it was you the other day who posted about being able to dechiper young-people speak (I totally admire teachers, I know that job is not for me). I laughed because a big part of my job is translating loose trains of thought, street slang, etc. I have many teacher friends and we often joke about how much overlap there is between our jobs.

Welcome! Glad you joined in. Hope you feel better too.

You mentioning your cats made me really we kind do have a furbaby. A feral cat showed up in November and has taken up residence under FI's shed. He's gorgeous. We call him Sameowl Jackson. He is very skittish about us getting close but shows up twice a day for his food and treats and then plays/hunts in the backyard.

BSC is a big guilty pleasure for me too ;)

Welcome! Glad you joined in! Sounds like there are a lot of big things going on in your family too.

I have never been to Portland but everything I hear about it is positive. If I were to ever visit, where's one place I absolutely must go?

  • Addie right now we are trying to get thehouse and pray to god that there is no huge counter offer on it from another party. As far as contingency plans we want to get the house, two dogs but we are just town on breeds as I want a large dog and well he is the one who has allergies and would prefer a smaller dog... That is just something that we are going to have to work something out or just get one of each Wink

cmsciulli the science backgrounds are awesome! Bad sushi is not good... I had that happen to me and I was sick for days... No bueno. As far as fur babies go we are  toron on the issue as I am mentioning to Addie but we will work it out... Both of us love animals he just has allergies and cannot be around cats or certain dog breeds. But we have a car together that he mostly drives as it is too big for me and I lovemy lil coupe and we are buying a home together. Things are good just trying to work out some kinks and learn by example from our roommate who is doing things last minute and stressing out... But me being that kind of friend that I am I am trying to help alleviate her stress by doing the makeup at her wedding as well as scheduling in time to do some shopping and some skincare and stress management consultation with a friend of mine who specializes in the field Smile So keep your fingers crossed that it works because her stress boiled over the other day and I am the only one who took the time to talk to her and figure things out... What she is going through is a high maintenance BM who is driving her crazy and complaining about everything and yet she complains about the price of the dress and her and her H go out and buy a new car! My friend is upset and thinks that the girl is being self centered and rude and she tells me this and I am expected to do her makeup... UGH... Jokingly I told my friend that after all this I think that her and I should go out and get a drink lol
