Sad, if you followed this story

They found Haleigh's body in Florida, so sad.  I don't know if any of you have followed this story, but she has been missing since last year.  Supposedly her Dad's 17 year old girlfriend put the little girl to bed and when she woke up at 3am, the little girl was gone and the door was propped open.  Since then the girlfriend has repeatedly changed her story and I've pretty much always suspected that she knew what happened to Haleigh.  Well I guess someone finally started talking and they found her body.  Sad.  :(

  • Oh that is sad.  I'm glad the family can properly put her to rest though.  I think not knowing would be even worse.  :(
  • Wow they only just now found her?? Poor little girl. So the girlfriend with the stripper name did have something to do with it?

I need to go read this story.

They aren't coming right out and saying it, but they're dancing around saying it.  The article says they had her at the dock on the water where the search was focused and there's a picture or video of her standing there in handcuffs and cops pointing at the water.

I should point out, I assumed they found her body but reading more carefully, it sounds like they haven't found it yet but know it's there in the water.  They've changed the case to a homicide, so they must  know that she is dead.

  • I've ALWAYS thought it was that girl who did it from the beginning.  Her story just always sounded so far fetched.

Yeah me too, definitely.  And every article I've read has mentioned things about cops knowing that she knows more but just wasn't telling.

Was this the one in Jacksonville? No, I haven't opened the link yet - I need to go read it.

EDIT:  She was near Palatka, which is south of Jacksonville.

So, so sick, and so, so sad.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • That is so heartbreaking :(

  • I've been following this a little... these stories are disgusting. WTF is wrong with these people? The whole thing stinks just like that Casey Anthony BS. I hope Casey burns.
  • So sad... I saw on today show this week that they were searching for her body further down the river where they had previously searched...I think they had some "new information".  I'd bet the dad's girlfriend/wife/now ex-wife had something to do with it and not sure if the dad did or knew. They are both in jail for drug trafficking.  Sad for the poor little girl.

  • wow I didn't realize it had been over a year. How awful.

  • That is so sad. I heard about this at the beginning of the week and couldn't believe it happened so long ago! Hopefully it gives her family some closure.

  • it's actually the girlfriend's cousin who probably did it.  it's the joe overstreet guy mentioned in the article. he's a real winner and tried to steal a gun from the house. here's a little more info about him: http://itsamysterytome.wordpress.com/2010/04/13/is-the-mystery-of-what-happened-to-haleigh-cummings-about-to-come-to-an-end/
  • Oh, I followed this a lot when it first broke and for a few months after when it was big news.  But I hadn't heard anything for awhile.  That's so sad.

  • They actually have not found her body. Possibly parts of her but we wont know till the lab tests come back. But no actual body...yet.

  • Oh no! I've been following this case when it started... Had watched Nancy Grace earlier this week when they started to search the lake and brought Misty out there... I was really hoping it wasn't true. But, when they showed Haliegh's mom and grandma leaving the police station days ago, they were clearly upset and knew something we didnt. How absolutely heartbreaking... Thanks for sharing!

  • I don't want to sound insensitive, because this is sad, but I often find it eyeroll-worthy how the national media concentrates on very specific missing children cases when dozens of kids go missing in the US everyday.

Oh of course, you're right about that.  That and missing women, and rapes, and even murders.

  • Damn, I always hope these cases will somehow end well and they never seem to.  That's so horrible.
