Too soon for STD cards???

We we renewing our vows in the summer of 2013. I don't have a venue yet but I want to send out STD cards to see how many people will come. Is it too soon to seen them out since it's about 18 monthes away??

Re: Too soon for STD cards???

  • Yes. Way too soon. Plus an STD is not an RSVP or not thing. Also, everyone who receives and STD has to get an invitation.

  • Yes. STDs typically go out around 6-8 months prior to a wedding. Also, many people will not know till closer to the time if they will be able to come due to work schedules, childcare, finances, etc.

People don't RSVP to STDs, so you won't really get to see how many people will come when they go out.  They should be sent 6-9 months before the vow renewal.  12 months max if you have a lot of out of town guests.  I highly recommend only sending them to VIPs too.  Things happen, and sometimes guest lists need to be adjusted, and they really can't be if everyone has received an STD.

  • How can you ask them to "save the date" if you don't have a venue yet?  You don't have a date until you have a venue.  Also, plans will change in 18 months.  Also, you don't RSVP to a STD.  Also, yes, way too early.

  • PP's are correct.  STDs are sent at the 6 month mark, and there is no response from people who receive a STD, so you wouldn't know how many people would be coming.
  • I was thinking it was too soon. I'm just excited!! lol ..... I'll probably send them out 9-12 monthes because of family who would come from out of state (FL, CA, MN and AZ).  I can send STD out without the venue since it's just informing people of the date.  Money is also another factor in why I want to know a head count earlier (with caterers and such).
