Invited everyone on the team except 2

I work with a small close-knit group of people (7 people total). My direct boss (DB) is getting married soon. I never assumed I was invited but when we all went for drinks one evening I overheard a couple coworkers & coworker's wife talking to DB's fiancee about getting invites in the mail. I was talking to my direct boss's boss (BB) (he' in charge of the dept) at the time and just casually said "Oh, I must be the only one not invited". BB quickly grabs DB and takes him outside to talk. We never say anything more about it.
The next day DB is leaving early and he IMs me and asks to speak to me before he leaves. I walk into the room and the first thing he says to me is "You're not invited to the wedding." I thought this was really bizzare that he told me this as I obviously know I wasn't invited as I didn't get an invite. I said I obviously know and he looks relieved. I ask him why he is telling me this and if it was about BB talking to him last night. He said that BB tried to make him feel bad about leaving me out of the invite list. I said I didn't condone BB grabbing DB to talk to him about it and that he was probably drunk. I wasn't bummed that I wasn't invited, just that it seemed everyone else on the team was except for me.
DB said he had to make cuts and me and another coworker were not invited. He did not say why so I am only left to wonder whether this was a personal or politcal decision.
I am not sure why DB called to meet with me as it made the situation even more awkward and tactless. He only met with me to tell me that I wasn't invited because he needed to cut people out but did not say the reason why I was chosen to be cut. He also felt the need to add that he did not invite a contract coworker that worked there last year so I shouldn't feel bad.
Seems like an obvious an awkard snub towards me and the other coworker since the group is so close and small. I've worked there a couple years and the other coworker has worked there even longer.

Not sure how to approach this situation. I would have just ignored it but DB called that awkward meeting to tell me I wasn't invited and compared me to a contract worker that he hadn't seen in a year. I just think this situation was handled tactlessly and made everything at the office awkward.
