WR:WWED Travel Time Question

If you are an OOT guest at a wedding, what's the farthest you'd drive for a Saturday evening wedding with driving? What about if you're in town?
if you're an in-town guest, would you be likely to get a hotel if it was far or just leave earlier/not go? Finally, would you stay at a Courtyard or HI or would you want a fancier hotel?
            Thanks for your opinions.

Update: Thanks The opinions helped me cross off one venue on my list of possibles. it's just too far way and the hotel section is too limited for guests. I really appreciate it.. I realized my title mistake after I'd posted, and thought it was too funny to change. Promise next time it will be a time travel question. :)

First, I read this as "Time Travel Question" and am now sorely disappointed.

Second, Out of town, I probably wouldn't want to drive very far. The closer the better. In town, probably no more than 20 minutes. I'd get a hotel if it was far and for a close friend/family. I'd probably go cheaper. Otherwise, I'd probably leave early.
  • If it was more than an hour away, I'd stay in a hotel. It's nice if you offer two options for guests, a nicer hotel and a budget option.
  • I read it like that too, Any! Haha.

    Farthest on Saturday:
    OOT: An hour
In town: Anything less than an hour. lol.

If it was an in town wedding, I wouldn't get a hotel unless it really was almost an hour away. I wouldn't mind HI or Courtyard for an overnight stay.

  • We would probably not get a hotel for anything less than 2 hours away, because H doesn't drink at all.  So I don't know how relevant my opinions are.

    Those hotels are fine.

I don't get your other question.  My brain is fried.

  • I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking how far I'm willing to travel to a wedding, or how far I'd travel between ceremony and reception?

To me, either would really depend on how close I am to the couple, what else I've got going on around the time of the wedding. The hotel would depend on my budget, and if I've got people I'm comfortable sharing a room with. I've gotten a room for a local wedding when it was across the metro area from where I live and there was a lot of people I knew I'd want to party with.

  • OOT: so far, the farthest I have driven was 8 hours. Probably would not do it again. I should note, that neither the bride nor groom were from the area, and the wedding was poorly attended.

Intown: I think it would have to be far enough for me to consider it out of town to get a hotel room. probably 1.5hrs or more.
  • We drove 8 hours round trip for a wedding.  4 hours there, attended the ceremony and reception, then drove 4 hours home.  That was for a very good friend from college.

We do not stay over unless we absolutely have to as it's generally not in the budget.  If we were to stay, we'd get an inexpensive hotel room.

OOT - if it weren't driveable (for instance, attending a family member's wedding 2500 miles away), we'd stay as close to the actual wedding as we could.

</div><div>In town?  My town's not big enough to drive more than about 5 minutes in either direction!</div><div>
</div><div>I think I would definitely get a hotel if I was more than about an hour drive away, because I'd rather stay in a hotel and drive back the next morning.  Courtyard or HI would be fine with me -- they a nice hotels with a good, middle-of-the-road price points, with free internet, breakfast, and usually a workout room.

[QUOTE]Depends two hours East is where my mom lives and 45 minutes northeast is where my FI's parents live so I would travel to either area and stay at their place.  Around town about a 30-40 minutes. Myself and my fiance drove 3.5 hours to my cousin's wedding.  And I was going to go to my cousin's wedding in Pheonix, but I couldn't because of work. So I travel as long as its family :) Oh and cheap hotels (but not super 8s), unless we are sharing a suite with someone and its a deal then a nice one is ok. Maybe I am the only only that doesn't know but what is HI?

  • We have driven a solid hour and returned later that evening.  Even when I was a broke just graduated from college student some friends of mine and I drove 3 1/2 hours and shared a hotel room for the night before coming back the next day.  I probably wouldn't go much further than an hour with the intent to return home at the end of the night.  It would also depend on whose wedding it was.  If it was one of H's friends, we'd probably plan to stay nearby even if it was only 30 minutes from home just so we wouldn't have to worry about drinking and driving.
  • We've driven an hour & a half.  We planned to leave early, but really only ended up leaving about 20 minutes before the reception ended.
