What are your thoughts on whether to host a formal engagement party vs. small gathering with the immediate family...we got engaged 2 weeks ago on his annual family vacation so we spent a whole week with many of his friends/family members while we celebrated our big news. However, our two families (parents and siblings) have not even properly met one another. We are on a very tight budget and so I thought of hosting a small backyard engagement party for our immediate families only. My extended family lives out of state so they won't feel excluded however his extended family is very large and all within an hour or two drive. Is it rude to host such a small engagement party?
