Father/Bride and Mother/Groom Songs

Any ideas for these?? We are LOST!!  Particularly with the mother/groom dance.

Thanks in advance :)

Re: Father/Bride and Mother/Groom Songs

  • The ones I've found so far are super sappy and I keep tearing up; I would like for us to get through the dances with some touching moments but not bawling through the whole deal.

I was thinking maybe Aerosmith "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" for me and my dad; we both fell in love with this song a long time ago and it's touching without being sappy.

Any ideas from your dad like that?

  • Dad and I started with the Chicken Dance (a surprise for him, kind of a joke) and then went into I Loved Her First by Heartland.  It's sappy, and the words made me cry everytime I heard it leading up to the wedding, but honestly we were talking most of the time, I don't think I really listened to the words that closely.

H and his mom danced to a Polka in honor of their Polish heritage (Roll Out the Barrel I think?)

Ask your parents what they'd like; they might have already put a lot of thought into it
  • My dad and I danced to Father and Daughter by Paul Simon.  H and his stepmom danced to What a Wonderful World (needed something slow).  We picked out the songs and suggested them to our parents.
  • Dad and I started with "dance with Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman then went into evolution of dance. Husband and his mom did "Sunrise Sunset" from Fiddler on the roof...it was her idea.

  • I agree with Duds--ask the parents.

I danced with my dad to "In My Life" by the Beatles. I was originally going to go with "That's My Daughter" but I thought my mom might get annoyed by some of the lyrics (they're divorced).  H danced with his mom to "There You'll Be" by Faith Hill.

Later in the night, I surprised my mom with a dance to Mama's Song by Carrie Underwood.
  • My dad and I will be dancing to "Butterfly Kisses" (Bob Carlisle). We used to dance to it (with me on his feet) when I was a little girl... so there was no other song that we would have picked.
  • For Mom/Son I like Gladys Knight and the Pips "You're the best thing to ever happen to me"  I LOVE Motown.
