Re: food poisoning

  • Stay close to the bathroom.

I don't think there's anything else you can do, except be sure to drink plenty of fluids to ward off dehydration.

  • Ditto the Pedialyte, even though I think it tastes beyond disgusting.  Watering it down helps a little.

Do you know what kind it is? How long have you had it?

Most of 'em you just rest for a day or two, but if it's salmonella (or giardia or something) sometimes it's good to go to the doc if it doesn't clear up in a couple of days.

Also, they told us in Peace corps not to take immodium unless we absolutely had to, b/c it masks your symptoms and doesn't allow shiit to clear out on its own.

edit: I hope you feel better soon!
  • If you feel like you're going to pass out, lay down on the bathroom floor.  The cold tile will snap you out of it, and that way you won't hit your head on the floor if you go down.

    Feel better!

  • Stay as hydrated as possible and keep an eye on the intervals of your "occurences".  If they seem to be increasing and/or you begin to vomit and have diarrea then go see a doctor.

    I hope you feel better!

Oh no! I had a stomach flu last week and then FI came down with it 2 days ago, so I know the feeling. :-( If you can eat anything, just try bananas and/or plain white rice. It won't wreak havoc on your system. Drink plain tea (ginger tea made me feel better), water, clear soda and pedialyte.

  • Regular coke makes my stomach feel better most times so give that a try?  I also eat chicken broth with white rice.

  • thanks ladies! never dealt with it before so...
  • Oh I have had it two or three times within 4 years (yaaayyy....) so I'm quite the expert at this point lol.  All three times I had to be hospitalized, but that's because when I start getting sick my stomach just doesn't stop until I'm heavily medicated.

  • ginger ale for nausea (anything with ginger, actually), gatorade works too if you dno't like pedialyte, or if you want the "poor mans" gatorade, mix warm water with a teaspoon of sugar and a couple shakes of salt (works in a pinch if you're too sick to get to the store).  when you're feeling better, start off with bland, non-fatty foods.

imodium is okay if you don't have a fever or blood coming out of any orifice.  if you have a bad fever and or bloody... um... stuff, call up your doctor.
  • i just had it.. its horrible.. sooo i feel your pain.. but, i was told to water down gatorade if you drink that because sugar can make it worse.. and not to take any OTC stuff to make your diarrhea stop because it has to get out of your system somehow.. good luck.. and get popscicles.. they are nice when your tummy starts to feel a little better.. and when you do feel better do go crazy with the foods.. start out slow.. learned that one from experience too.
