Pampered Chef Shower?

My FI's aunt has offered to throw a shower just for his side of the family, and would like to do a Pampered Chef shower. She says that I would look through the catalog and "register" for somethings that I would like, and then the peple at the shower would just buy from the catalog of things that I registered for. Has anyone done this?

It sounds like it would be VERY uncomfortable watching people look through a book and buying things for me right in front of me.

I've heard of these and highly suggest you decline.  It sounds like an uncomfortable situation for both you and your guests.
  • Don't do that. Guests shouldn't be put on the spot to order something from a catalogue for you AT the shower.

I don't know if its possible, but maybe you could just make a regular Pampered Chef registry and your aunt can throw you a normal bridal shower where you might receive some of those items as gifts.

  • Definitely decline.  That sounds like a horrible idea for a shower!

  • Please don't.  That sounds like such an awkward situation.  I would probably not go to a shower like that if I was invited.

  • I went to one of these. If I think about it objectively, I don't like the idea. But the one I went to was actually pretty nice. It was for my SIL OOT, so I didn't have to worry about transporting a gift. And the bride liked that she didn't have to open gifts in front of everyone. FWIW, the b-party dinner and drinks outing was right after; I don't know if that makes a difference.

  • I hate this type of thing. I think it is horribly tacky as the Aunt is making money off of the shower.

But is the aunt the host? The MOH that organized the one I went to was not a Pampered Chef rep, and she gave the hostess benefits to the bride.

ETA: Is the aunt a Pampered Chef rep is what I meant to say.

Lemme guess; Your FI's aunt just happens to be a Pampered Chef rep?  So tacky.

  • I would be really uncomfortable having to go to a shower like that. I would feel doubly uncomfortable as the bride.

  • I know these showers have been done where I live, but I've never been invited to one.  My problem would be that the products are more expensive than what I would typically spend on a shower gift.  I might be at the shower & have nothing on the bride's wishlist that I want to purchase because of the price points. I don't care for this type of shower.

I'm assuming so. But even if she isn't the rep, the host gets gifts from the rep.

  • She isn't a rep, but I still feel very uncomfortable with the whole idea of putting my FI's family on the spot like that. A lot of their products are more expensive than what I would pay as well. I agreed to her hosting a shower a while ago, and she just approached me with this Pampered Chef idea this morning.

Any suggestions on how to politely decline this type of shower?

I would just say that you are not really interested in the Pampered Chef items, therefore, it wouldn't really be the best option for you.
