Timeline help?

I hope the formatting doesn't get weird, I c&p this.

How does this timeline look?  I haven't been to a wedding since I was 12 so I don't know the usual order of things.  Is it weird to open the dance floor for only a few minutes and then cut the cake?

1:00 PM           Girls begin hair & makeup at venue
2:00 PM           Boys arrive at venue and do whatever it is they do to get ready

3:00 PM           Photographer arrives4:00 PM           Boys outdoor photos4:30 PM           Get dressed, indoor bridal photos5:00 PM           Begin seating guests & music5:30 PM           Ceremony

6:00 PM           Cocktail hour / photos together

7:00 PM           Bride & groom and wedding party announced7:15 PM           Dinner served7:45 PM           First dance7:50 PM           Open dance floor

8:15 PM           Cake cutting & toasts

9:00 PM           Photographer leaves

11:00 PM         Reception ends

  • I think it looks fine. Although my DJ suggested just waiting to open the dance floor until it was going to stay open and that's what we did. He said the guests wouldn't mind waiting a little longer as long as they got to dance uninterrupted.

  • How many girls are getting hair and make-up done? Our ceremony wasn't until 6:00, and the make-up lady arrived at 9am. I thought that was early but she didn't finish until 3:00, this included me, 3 attendants and my mom so 4 girls total just for make-up. I think hair would add more time obviously :)

  • also, I know that our cake-cutting was originally supposed to be at 9:00, but my DOC came and wrangled me at 10 because time got away from us, so I'd just make sure someone watches the clock and gets you when there's a break in the action for the cake cutting.

  • 6 hours to do makeup for 4 girls?  Sheesh.  At my practice I think she maybe took 45 min?  And that was with adjusting some things at the end.

We have a hair stylist and makeup artist coming to us and I told them what time we needed to finish (4:00ish) and that's the time they said they'd get there.  When I had my practice, the guy took literally 15 min MAX to do my hair.

I have myself, three girls and my mom all getting hair and makeup.  Maybe I'll ask if they're SURE that's enough time, haha.

  • I think that sounds right. My hair and makeup people are coming at 12:00PM (we told them we wanted to be done by 3:30PM for photos) and are doing 9 updos and 5 makeup applications between 2 of them.

  • It really shouldn't take 6 hours to do the makeup for 4 people. My makeup artist arrived at 10, did the makeup for me, my mom, and my sister, helped one BM adjust her makeup, and put fake lashes on two girls and she was gone by 12:30

  • Yea, that's a long time for makeup! Our lady only took 20-30 mins per face. But then again, it was an outdoor wedding so we didn't do anything too heavy. We started hair at 7am and were done by 11am for me, 5bms, my mother, and the flower girl.
  • my make-up lady just must have been really slow, but thorough :) It was all air-brush so who knows maybe it takes longer. Good thing she wasn't paid by the hour otherwise I could understand her taking her time!

  • TR--FWIW, and something to think about, we are having our intros, then FI & I will have our first dance, then cut the cake before dinner. We figure it's the one time everyone will be in the room and seated (for intros & dinner) and people can get their photo ops etc.  I assume the best man's toast will be before dinner, then we'll open up the dance floor without interruption.
