[QUOTE]I will say if there is a religious dietary restriction I would be ok with accommodating.  (<strong>Someone above said to eat it even if it wasn't Kosher, I wouldn't do that</strong>).  Or for allergies, or vegetarians (that is often a personal preference).  In fact generally when I host I ask people before hand what they don't like.  However if after all that someone did this I would be really angry.

<div>She wasn't saying anyone who keeps Kosher should just eat what is put in front of them, that's just what her mom told her. Some people who keep Kosher at home don't always outside the home, others keep Kosher always. As a host, if I had someone coming over who kept Kosher, I would serve a meal that they could eat, same as with allergies, being vegetarian, or other restrictions. </div>
  • Thank you for the replies.  As it turns out they brought individual Easy Mac containers that were microwaved vs. the original plan of making box macaroni and cheese on my stove top.  This worked out fine.  I was using three burners of the stove to make our meal so I was nervous until I saw their new plan.  Between appetizers, dinner, and dessert I'd think they'd be fine.  I planned the meal around foods I'd seen the parents serve at their house.

I do understand food allergies and always cater to them, it's usually life or death.  My entire wedding weekend was nut free.  It wasn't even worth it to me to leave the nuts on the salads of the other guests.  I took no chances and wanted to know the resort kitchen was nut free that weekend. The people I knew who didn't eat red meat (2) got two lobster tails instead of one and a filet mignon.

I agree I won't coddle my kids.  You eat what is served.  My husband and I don't plan on making "kid" meals for our kids, they'll always eat what we are eating.  We won't let them order off the kid menus in restaurants when they're little either.  They'll eat part of our meals, portions are large enough.  When they get old enough that they need more food than that we'll figure out a new plan, but I won't have toddlers who only eat mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, or pizza.  If they never know that food then I hope I don't have a problem.
