Invite or not invite?

Here is the situation.  I use to write messages back and forth with a friend's mom on facebook after I met her at a close friend's wedding that I was a bridesmaid in.  So probably around 2 years ago she said, "promise me that someday when you and 'Bob' get married that you will invite me to your wedding"...and I said yes I will.   We are now getting married in a little over 3 months.   I am totally fine with sending her an invitation but I haven't talked to her for a long time.  I did see her at a friend's child's birthday party in December but that was the last time we spoke.  Also, I am planning on inviting her daughter (my friend) to the wedding.  Should I send her an invitation since I promised to a couple years ago?  Thanks!

Re: Invite or not invite?

  • If you have the space on your guest list, I probably would invite her.  An oral promise of an invite is the same as a save the date, but that's just me.

  • I would invite her if you have the space.  If you've grown apart, she probably won't come (although make sure you have space if she does come).  I think it's weird for an adult to say on FB "promise me you'll invite me to your eventual wedding."  Given that behavior, I might be worried that she would freak out if she didn't get an invitation, and you don't want it to harm your relationship with her daughter.

If you have the space and the money, I would invite her.  Those sort of situations are a little tough, but I figure they can always decline if they don't want to come. If you would like her there, definitely!
