maid and matron

Is it ok to have a maid and matron of honor but have the maid of honor be the one standing next to me and giving the speech?

Re: maid and matron

  • It is definitely okay to have both.  And I remember reading somewhere that the maid is supposed to be one next to the bride.

However, why won't the Matron be doing a speech?  Does she not want to?

I will be having both, and was just in a wedding with two maids of honor.  We both gave speeches and had a few teeny little jobs at the ceremony.  The girl next to the bride held her bouquet, while I gave her the ring.
  • Yep.  I did this.

  • I had a maid and matron, and H had two best men.  The maid and one BM stood up with us, and we told them whoever wanted to give a toast could.  Both MOHs gave toasts, and one BM did.  It was fine.

  • You can do it however you wish.
The tradition is for the MATRON of honor to stand next to the bride, and the MAID of honor next to the MATRON of honor.
That's because the MATRON is already married and can bring more real-life experience to the bride as a marriage mentor during the first year and thereafter.
  • My sister is my MAID and my bff is my MATRON. My sister is standing the closest to me at the ceremony but I've asked them both do give a toast at the reception. It's your wedding...do whatever you want :-)
