Wedding gifts in advance?

My cousin is getting married in mid-May. We will be going, wedding is about a 3 hour drive from us. I know they have already registered. I would like to take advantage of after-Christmas sales and get their wedding gift early - I already have a dollar amount in mind, I'm hoping I can get them a bit more for that money this way. If I get it that early, should I go ahead and have the store ship it to them, or do I have it shipped to me and bring it with us to the wedding? The wedding is local for them, so hopefully it wouldn't be difficult for them bringing gifts home from the wedding. I'd rather not pay for shipping twice, having it shipped to me and then shipped to them closer to the date. Thanks!

Re: Wedding gifts in advance?

  • I would ship it to them.  I received my first gifts 10 months out.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • personally i wouldnt get a gift this early, but if you must, ship it right to them.  the less gifts that are brought to the wedding, the easier for teh B&G.
  • Ship it to them. From what I understand, a lot of brides would prefer to get a batch of TY notes out before the wedding anyway, so getting a gift in advance might be helpful.

  • Ship it. I bet she'll be really pleasantly surprised to start getting wedding gifts this early.

  • Ship it to them already.
