NMR: Babies. and Drinking. (not together)

So, I read this article this morning about how Orlando Bloom went to a bar last night in LA. He was out drinking beers and doing tequila shots until 2am. The article claims he was "celebrating the birth of his son." His wife gave birth to a little boy last week.

I'm honestly curious - imagine you are home with a new baby and your husband is down at the bar until 2am drinking. How do you feel about that?

I am not feeling so great about it. I'm not saying you have to give up your *entire* social life for a new baby, but shouldn't your wife and baby come before drinking with your buddies? Am I crazy? The commenters on the article sure think I am. One woman said her husband was down at the bar drinking beers within two hours after her daughter's birth and she said "he needed his down time."

Maybe I'm being way too unfair. I can't tell. Thoughts?

  • FI worked pretty hard during my labor, he massaged and worked on my lower back muscles, he pretty much held me up for a good bit of time, stood and squatted without a break for hours,I would say he was probably was near as exhausted as I was by the end, but at least I got the rush of adrenaline and oxytocin, he just got to sit down LOL.

I wouldn't mind if he went out for some celebratory guy time, but you bet I would get some similar down time.

I don't really mind that he's out so late, in the first couple months, a breastfeeding baby basically only needs mom in the wee hours. It wouldn't really make a difference if he was out till 10 or until 2, because chances are good that the babe is sleeping, as is the mom.

[QUOTE]In Response to NMR: Babies. and Drinking. (not together) : I have to agree with you on this one. I know someone who's wife had just had a baby about 3 days before going on a camping/four wheeling trip for the weekend. With another woman - although that's probably a whole other story... this guy is pretty much a diick... It's one thing to go have a drink or two with the guys to maybe take a breather, but 2AM? I think that's pushing it.

Well that is entirely different to going out drinking with your guys friends for ONE night. Apples and oranges, even.

I know H's friends will want to celebrate with him and if he wants to go out for some drinks and stay out late I don't think I'll care, as long as they take a cab or have a designated driver.
