Poll: Updating your status from the altar?

How many of your will (or did) update your status from the altar or shortly after? Maybe you tweeted or updated your FB status to, “I’m married! Or I’m a Mrs.” or something similar. (Confession: If I would have been on Twitter or FB 6.5 years ago. I would have done this. My dress had pockets.)

Re: Poll: Updating your status from the altar?

  • Nope, and I'd be irritated if my FI did it.  Which he wouldn't.  So we're good ;)

  • We actually polled ourselves on this not too long ago, after someone posted a video of a groom doing it at the altar.

It's NMS, but I found the video someone posted funny. If both halves of the couple, and their guests would find it funny, then go for it. Know your crowd.

  • Maybe the next day but I don't plan on having my phone any where near me anyone that would call me will be there ( hopefully)

  • Is this question a joke?  If your FB friends didn't warrant an invitation to the wedding, I think they can wait to be notified of your change in status until you are back from your honeymoon.  (of course, I'm 30 and late to the FB game so maybe it is an age thing)  I feel like this is so rude to the people who actually CAME to the wedding!!!

Nobody in either of our families would be surprised if FI did this.  But he'd still pay for it later from me.

BTW, KA, "something like similar" is really not gramatically correct.  Welcome to the E board!  ;)

  • In no way at all do I think this would be funny or cute.  It is a fad (fb, twitter, etc) that would be the last thing on my mind at the alter.
  • Definitely not a joke. I'm asking this question in a wedding message board community. It's not that crazy, right?

  • ugh.  That's all I can say if I saw someone do this, Knot Annie.  U-G-H.
  • No, I wouldn't have been ON THE PHONE texting at the alter.  Sorry, but this sounds worse than moms-to-be giving labor updates from the hospital room :(

I should SERIOUSLY hope that your cell phone and FB status are the FURTHEST things from your mind just moments after saying I DO. I think if you feel the need (no offence or anything) to do that, you are really just starved for attention. Everybody already knows youre getting married, they dont need regular updates on it.

Yeah, this isn't the type of labor update I was thinking.  I was thinking the labor updates that talk about how far dilated and effaced she is and when she's pushing and crap like that.  So I guess we're not on the same page ;)

Not from the altar, but DH did during the ride from venue to venue. If I would have had my phone, I'm sure I would have, too.

ETA: Had he done it from the altar, I would have given him the glare.
  • If I do this, it wouldn't be at the altar, but maybe in the bridal suite while waiting for the reception entrance.

    <div>Yes, that would be gross!!!</div>
  • I did it after the receiving line (I think?). I know I ran to the bridal suite to change shoes, and I'm thinking I either texted a few people or posted it as my status. I said that I did on the other board you posted, but now I'm second guessing myself. It was definitely not at the altar though.

  • I wouldn't.  Maybe at the end of the night, but even then, probably not.

FI doesn't change his status EVER, so I know he'd never do it, either.

  • I posted something on my status right before we headed off the to rehearsal, and never got another second to look at it until we were at the airport waiting to leave for the HM.

When we were changing planes half way through the HM, I updated my FB and got chewed out for it.
  • No, Nebb, that's NOT COOL!
  • Yick, I agree with noodle, all the important people are either at your wedding or know you're getting married.  The rest of Facebook world can wait.

That being said, DH and I had a cute moment when we woke up the next morning when we changed our FB relationship status from engaged to married :)

  • I'll probably do it later than night or the next day, but in private. IMO, whipping out a cell phone in the company of others to do business not related to your conversation or immediate task is kind of rude.
