Rediculous dry skin

OOT and J&K recommended Aquaphor a few weeks ago for dry skin around my eyes.  It's definitely tolerable, but the dry skin just keeps getting worse.  Pretty much my whole face now.  I'm either being attacked by sandpaper and a wire brush while I sleep, or something is pretty horribly wrong.  Now, I can exfoliate and cover with makeup very carefully & nobody is the wiser when I go out, but I'm not enjoying this.

The only thing I can think of is that I started using Bare Minerals a few months ago.  The dryness was definitely NOT around for the first 6 - 8 weeks, maybe more.

And - it will be at least a week before I can get to my doc and then get a dermatolotist referral, so I'm looking for interim suggestions.  Not replacement for what the derm will tell me.  So, since you've all got skin too, I figured I'd ask.  If it were your face, what would you do?

Re: Rediculous dry skin

  • I've had this problem for years.  I don't do anything about it until it gets really bad, then I find myself rubbing it off when I'm bored or looking for something to do with my hands. I've gotten oodles of recommendations on ways to fix it but nothing has worked.   I wish I could be more help.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I'd try Bio Oil, if you can get it in the USA.  Fantastic stuff.
  • FI REQUIRES a fan to sleep at night.  I'm pretty sure that's not helping, but that's also not new.  It's been like that since the first time we spent the night together, and every night since he moved in last winter - no issues then.  I'll look for humidifiers when we get home from visiting his family.

I have always had mildly dry skin, but this is about 35x worse.

  • Flaxseed oil (take a capsule 3x a day), make sure you're washing your face with cool water, showers shouldn't be too hot.  Don't use ANYTHING on your face with oil, alcohol, dye, fragrance.  No makeup until it clears up or you see a derm.

    Thank you!

Have you tried philosophy's hope in a jar? My skin gets so dry that I get white flakes on my face and that stuff definitely rids the problem.
