Ben Folds question

Why do people all of a sudden know him? Is he touring or something now? Did I miss some sort of tour? I wasn't aware he RE came out after they changed from Ben Folds Five, to just Ben Folds.... apparently I'm not up to date on my pop culture.

He's on the show the Sing Off as a host.

He is also currently touring, but that's neither here or there.

He's been just Ben Folds for a long, long, time.

Lol, Ben Fold Five was the late 90s, then he went solo. I remember playing just Ben Folds (specifically "Rockin' the Suburbs") on my college radio station.

I guess he's on a Sing Off show now?

I know he was ben folds five a long time ago, it's when I originally liked him.... and then he almost re came out, just himself, as ben folds.... I have never heard of the show the sing off.

I used to love Ben Folds but didn't know he was doing anything musically recently - the last thing I'd heard from him was in 2005.  I thought he was an odd choice as a judge for that show, but it wasn't good and all the judges were pretty bad at judging so my guess is they were just desperate for someone to fill a chair.

They weren't desperate for someone to fill a chair, he recently produced an album of college acapella performances. He knows (and loves) acapella.

And he rocks.

I knew he was touring because they were playing a live set of his on the radio the other day from when he was here earlier this year. I don't know if he's got much in the way of new material, though.

And he's very knowledgeable in music, and sweet to boot.

And he's a talented photographer, too, but that's neither here nor there, either.

And yeah. The college acapella thing was probably the main reason they chose him.

For everyone else: yes, he releases albums pretty regularly, and yes, he tours for all of them. I've seen him three times in the last five years.

I seriously loved Ben Folds until he went on vacation with his wife and left her for a yoga instructor he met on the trip. I also believe he immediately married the yoga instructor after his divorce. That was like a year and a half ago. Not cool, Ben, not cool.

HOLD UP.

He's the ONLY judge on that show that said anything remotely musical and valid.  You seriously thought that airhead Nicole was a better judge?!??

He recognized and said 'tritone substitutions' on national television.  If you don't know what that is, then you have no right to judge whether he belonged there or not.

He spoke about the music and the arrangements and knows why it sounds 'cool'.  He was the BEST choice for that show and I'm thrilled that they finally got someone intelligent to judge a show like that.
