Engagement Photos

Sooooo I'm wondering, we are getting married July 6th of this year and still haven't done engagement photos yet...Living in ND the last few months are exactly the time to get photos done. Is having them done towards the end of April too late?

Re: Engagement Photos

  • eeeh.... I mean, if you're going to do them only 3 months before hand, why not just wait until your 1yr anniversary, kwim? You'll be so close to the date anyways. Is there a reason you'd like engagement photos?

  • One of my friends is getting married in May and is having her engagement photos next month. I know that our engagements were simply so we could show off our interests and our dogs, so I don't think timing really matters.

  • I'm getting married at the end of August and we'll be getting ours done at the end of April. We get an engagement session included in our photography package and we want to work with the photographer once before the wedding. Also, we have shockingly few photos of us considering we've been together for over 6 years. mlurness, are you paying extra to get the photos taken? If ours weren't included I might skip them at this point, but if you and your FI want them it's up to you.

DH and I did an engagement session in June for our August wedding. We loved the time together for pro pictures in our "normal" clothes. Smile

It also helped our photographer get to know DH & I so she knew how to pose us for the wedding day. We also got comfortable with her and her style. It was great!

We were so excited that our wedding was so close, I'll always cherish the expressions we had in the photos!

I don't think it's too late. I don't think there are any set rules on this or that it is bad or good etiquette to do them at a certain time. Many couples want to use these for their announcements, save the dates, or to evaluate a photographer (or just because they are excited!), so they do them right away. I'm getting married July 5, and my photographer actually recommended waiting til this spring, closer to the wedding, so we could use it as a practice shoot for the wedding where she gives us tips on how we can be best photographed (I don't love the way I just phrased that, but I think you know what I mean).
  • I had my engagement pictures taken two weeks before our wedding.

My photographer included them in the price for the digital guestbook so timing didn't matter, it only took one week to have the guestbook printed.
  • FYI the engagement photos are included in our package.
  • If you want them, go for it, I don't think the timining matters.

Ours were included with our wedding photography package. We loved doing them and I'm glad we had the chance to work with our photographer before the wedding day. We used the pictures on our Save the Dates, Wedding Website, got a couple of canvases to go on the guestbook table at the wedding, and I'm making a photobook as a keepsake (I've done these for big vacations we go on too, I love looking through them!). So we are definitely getting use out of them.

If you don't have any particular use or interest in having them done, I agree with KindaSparkly, see if your photographer will discount your package without them.

  • I would still do them, as long as you have the time and want to. For us, it was great practice at having those types of photos taken. FI was a bit nervous, so it especially benefitted him to have some time to get used to our photographer. We didn't use them for much WR except a guest book, but our parents each wanted a copy of one print so they didn't go to waste.
  • My FI has braces and didn't want to do E-pics until he got them off.  Now it looks like that will be less than 2 months before the wedding.

At first I thought of cancelling them, but I really do think it's valuable to be able to get comfortable with our photographer before hand.  Besides, we're only paying $100 for them, and it's always nice to have professional photographs not in wedding clothes.

<div>This.  We didn't send STDs, so we didn't need to do the pictures far in advance. Since is wsa included in our package price, we just used it as an opportunity to get used to working with our photographer.  We then used the pictures on our wedding website and we displayed a couple at the reception.</div>
  • You're allowed to hire a photographer to document you shaving your legs. You can take professional photos with you and your fi at any time. Some people use them for save the dates, but you don't need a pro pic for that. You can use them to get used to being photographed, to build a rapport for the photographer and just to have fun. The idea is that you will have professional photos where you are not wearing a wedding dress. You also can get different locations than the wedding site
