Weird registry situation

So I registry stalk.  I own it.  I also stalk the thank you note manager because I can't help myself.  I've made peace with this.

Today I noticed something (that I really wanted by the way) off our registry got purchased, and it was from a person whose name I didn't recognize.  I called FI assuming it was from his side... he doesn't recognize it either.

What gives?  Luckily I can get her address from the thank you note manager to send an actual thank you... but is there any possibility the person might have bought from the wrong registry?  I did a search of each of our names, and even misspelled there are only two choices that appear - ours and another couple who got married back in August.

I'm confused.

Thoughts?

  • Maybe it's a parents long lost friend? I would just wait until you get it then write the thank you note. There's not much else you can do.
  • Congrats on getting married in one week and four days!

That is really weird. Did you check with your parents or grandparents? My grandmother's friends used to send me cards and stuff.

Can you see the full address in the thank you manager? Is it really close to someone you know? Maybe someone's family member or girlfriend put the gift on her credit card.

It's definitely possible that it was a mistake, too.
  • Something similar happened to us-her credit card was in her maiden name, and I only knew her by her married name.

It's also entirely possible the store clerk entered the wrong registry ID number.

  • These are all good points - I guess I have to be patient and wait and see if there is a card of something.  Not my strong suit!

Yes, we've checked with parents and they are clueless too.... I guess I will find out eventually!

  • Oh and thanks for the wedding wishes!  I'm seriously ready to get this show on the road...

  • Congrats!!

I know a couple who got a lot of things that werent on their wedding registry...like a dish set that they didn't register for. Turns out there was another couple with the same or very similar names that popped up first at the store and they must not have verified the wedding date.

They didn't really get what happened until she opened up this big sushi dish set and the gift giver started talking about how she didn't know they even ate sushi until they saw it on the registry...and they don't eat sushi and they didn't register for it.

They brought a lot of stuff back to BB&B.

<div>Could it be a SO you don't know about? Before FI was my FI, I bought all the gifts for weddings of his friends that we attended together (and actually, once we got engaged, to a few that just he went to) because (1) I enjoyed it and (2) he'd cover the hotel/travel costs so that was our way of evening costs. <span style="font-size:11px;line-height:14px;">I hadn't met some of the brides when that happened? I'm sure they might have been confused unless they researched FI's fb.</span></div>

  • I know it's n not exactly the same, but when I was pregnant I too was a registry stalker. Our registry was so different from what we actually got. There were things marked off twice that we didn't get any of and there were things that didn't get marked off that we got multiples of. Unfortunately those things don't seem to be horribly reliable. I think you're just going to have to wait and see if and when it arrives and hope there's a name attached! I know you said tippy wanted it so for you're sake I hope you get it!! Congrats!

<div>So far, every item has arrived at our doorstep correctly.  We have about 4 gifts in transit, but everything else (maybe 50-60 things or so) has been accurate - correct quantities, correct item, correct sender.  May I ask which registry service you used?</div><div>
</div><div>This particular item was bought at Williams Sonoma.  They are pretty vigilent about that sort of thing.  I just hope the sender wasn't trying to buy for somebody else.  That would be a real bummer, and I don't really know how I would fix that...</div>
