Dear Italy, today, I hate you.

Today I had an "appointment" at the police station to be fingerprinted for my permit to stay.  I use "" because appointments here don't mean jack.  I means, if you show up, you may or may not, be given your documents today.  In fact, for me, it meant, "arrive at 8:45, wait 4 hours, and then leave because the system is down, and come back on Saturday." Unfortunately, I'm out of the country on Saturday, trying to find a fucking place to live.  At 1:30, I decide to walk to the nearby mall and have some lunch and then catch the bus home.  I get there only to find out, the fucking mall is closed on fucking monday for GODKNOWS what stupid reason, until 2pm.  I wait, cause I'm hungry and it will take longer to get home.  Finally go inside (yay McD;s!) eat, and realize it's begun pouring outside.  I don't have an umbrella, and the bus stop is about a football field away.  I call H to find out if he can pick me up on his way from work.  When he says yes, I go to buy wine.

While shopping for wine, he calls and says he can't make it back in time, and I need to catch the bus.  Finally get out there and get home (40 minutes on the bus and then 20 minute walk across town) and all I can think is, "Good fucking thing I have wine and a chocolate bunny."  Both of which have been devoured.

  • Don't you hate days like that?! When I have days like that where EVERYTHING goes wrong, sometimes I just have to sit down, take a breath and laugh, because..really?!?!
  • That sucks, Amoro.  I'm sorry.  But at least the wine and chocolate were good.

  • Isn't expat life just one exotic adventure after another? I'm sorry. Chile and I have bad days too, and I feel you. A Chilean friend actually hated Italy so much on a vacation he left early...he said it was all the third world-ness of Latin America but four times more expensive, so he'd rather just go home and save his money.
