Do I Need Waitors to Refill Drinks?

I'm having a small wedding (less than 50 people), and we are only have tea-time foods, like finger sandwhiches. We have a limited bar and a bartender, but I'm wondering if I need to have waitors/waitresses to walk around and refill people's drinks. Or is it okay to have them refill their own drinks?

Re: Do I Need Waitors to Refill Drinks?

  • Refill the drinks.
  • Couldn't they just walk up to the bar and ask for a refill?

  • is there a reason you asked this twice? I would assume double post, but the titles are different.

Yeah. If it's small and more of a cocktail type reception, I think that would be fine. But will you need people to clear plates?

  • I didn't think it posted, because it never said that it was done, and when I checked the board, my other post never showed up. Sorry!
  • I think it is a good idea to have someone to refill drinks and then to bust the tables after the wedding.

We hired a girl at my sister's shower (44 guests at a shower in the home) .. she was responsible for cleaning up.. refilling any trays of food that ran out.. refiling drinks and so forth.  We paid her $70 (I think) for about 5 hours of work.

She was in high school and loved the chance to earn money.  We benefited from having everything run more smoothly at the party.  Although we had 3 hosts.. it was nice to have someone that wasn't expected to participate in mingling take care of these things.

It was definitely money well spent!
  • I would think you would need someone to bus the tables. Plates/drink glasses etc, but people can get their own drinks.
  • We're doing water carafes on the tables, otherwise all drinks will be get-'em-yourself, and we're perfectly comfortable with that.  It gives people a reason to get up and talk to different guests.
  • Who is serving the food? Who is picking up the dishes from the table? How would people get a refill drink? One bartender for 50 people could mean some long lines.
  • I don't know if you need a waitor, but you might want a waiter.

  • no. they can refill their own drinks. I've done so as a guest at weddings, and we did the same at ours.

  • Guests typically go up to the bar to get another drink at weddings. I don't understand why people are saying you need to have someone walking around refilling drinks.

  • You do not need a waiter or someone to clear the plates unless you are having a sit down style and be served reception which it sounds you are not. So don't worry about or waist the money on it.
